SEDGE
I think the rear diffs going on my freelander...driving along say 30+ mph start getting a loudish humming noise from the rear..also when reversing of the drive if you have it on full lock or near it comes to a dead stop..no freewheeling at all...can anyone shed some light on this for me ?? Kranz
The reversing thing is normal. They won't do low speed with the steering turned unless you give it loads of accelerator. The diff noise may be a wheel bearing.... or tyres? What tyres have you got? How long have you had it?? The freeloader at work is a noisy old pig...... but I'm told its normal. SEDGE
yeah was also thinking of a wheel bearing...so that is how they reverse then ? just thought it should freewheel..tyres are just the standard 15" wheels (185),checked the pressure and they are ok so i dont know then. stevie_b
I don't have one myself, but I know a man who does and my thoughts are: Have you got the diff lock on? There's also something called transmission wind-up on 4x4s (related to having the diff lock on for too long), which may or may not cause the symptoms you describe. I don't know specifics though, sorry I can't be more help.
