swandip
Just had the spoiler removed and well pleased with the look. Can anyone tell me how this will affect the performance at 120mph plus, as I know the option on the supe was available without this.
Wez
Its pretty much for show only although people did use to remove them for top speed runs and gain a few MPH.
Chiefgroover
12 stone of downforce @ 80MPH. At 120 it wouldnt matter that much but beyond that on sweeping bends I wouldnt be without it. If you run big BHP, its a must for a traction aid beyond 80mph.
Jake
I know the option on the supe was available without this. Was it? In all my years on here I've never heard that before. What's your source for that info?
Bobbeh
The spolier was optional in Japan and on US cars.. I think all UK/Euro models had it by default.
Homer
Was it? In all my years on here I've never heard that before. What's your source for that info? I'm sure I've seen this somewhere, probably in one of Nic's older posts. There was an option to have the car without the spoiler, it was a dealer option IIRC. Sorry no proof, just recall it being mentioned a few times
Jake
I know it was an optional extra on NAs but it was standard issue on TTs, wasn't it?
Bobbeh
I dont think so Jake. Standard here as all the cars were turbos, but not US/Japan afaik.
dandan
Option on Jap TT's for sure.

Gazboy
If Toyota saw fit to have it standard for the conservative German market, then it's there for a reason imo.
Chiefgroover
In Germany it was an option, and non existant in Switzerland where the govt reckoned it could de capitate someone of you knocked them down and they passed over the roof lol. How crazy !
Chiefgroover
option not to have it that is. They also affered a lower one.
geoffvalenti
I know it was an optional extra on NAs but it was standard issue on TTs, wasn't it? No, my VVTi TT never had a spoiler from new. Dude fitted the one to mine after I bought it.
absz
Was it? In all my years on here I've never heard that before. What's your source for that info? my tailgate never had a spoiler as i had to drill my own holes.

supRo
I've never had any handling issues since going spoilerless. I've been 150+ leptons. I'm BPU The ridge on the back of the bootlid will give some downforce - The Dodge Viper coupe engineers put a ridge on for the same reason
Bobbeh
You're only really going to notice any difference on high speed cornering, ie on a track.
hogmaw
Give it a go and see, you can always put it back on again
Jake
Give it a go and see, you can always put it back on againNot if you've lost the back end at 160mph you can't !

swandip
Cheers for the info guy's, I thought as much. The lip on the boot is designed for sufficient down force and the spoiler was an option that would contribute but not a great amount. I am interested if on those figures of 12 stone @80mph as to where those came from.
_Rob_
Ive read somewhere the spoiler gives 60 lbs of down force, not sure at what MPH though. I cant remember where ive read it.
lust2luv
The quoted figure for the stock rear spoiler is something like 65 lb of downforce at 90MPH. Not much, but I guess this would increase (exponentially?) at higher speeds. I think the front active spoiler is much more important at higher speeds. b_have
Where did 12 stone come from? I also read it was 60lbs @ 90mph (about half a tank of fuel)
