RedM
Erm.... hand-made? Does it come with a traceable history? £130?? You must mean ornamental then? Try several hundred to several thousand pounds for a live blade to practice Iai with. Real Samurai swords cost, ooh, museum and collectors kind of money. I don't mean to spoil your sale but, seriously, advertise it correctly.
Guest Phillw454
no i mean some bloke sat that and made the blade. didnt say it was unique and used back to win some jap war, its advertised as a sharp jap sword and described how i bought it so there for accurate. and ornimental is same as collector. Ok so to clear up if you plan to use it in battle its probably not a wise idea

Havard
So, some guy made it by hand. Do you know who, how or where? Well WHO and HOW are definitely Samurai names. Not sure about WHERE though!! H.
Guest Phillw454
The hand-forged blade features superior strength resulting from the change in the structure of the steel when hammered. The blade featured on this katana is an Iron Wrap 60° High Carbon Steel. The tang, point edges and grooves are then hot forged. The blade is heat treated using a forge and an oil quench tank. The blade is put through flex and shock tests to ensure proper strength. description from advert also have pics if any more detailed info is needed:rolleyes:

Oh you've touched the blade. That's that buggered then. Skin oils and the like. Hope you cleaned it properly afterwards. FWIW, this is an area I know something about. I won't touch the blades of mine. Heck, I won't even show them to people when they visit. Drawing a sword (a live blade not a blunt piece of eye candy that couldn't open an envelope) should only be done in the proper environment and after observing the proper rituals. Sadly, these *cough* Samurai swords that can be bought just about anywhere and by anyone are the reason the Government is trying to clamp down on their ownership with the possibility that participants of Iaido will no penalised for following this ancient form. jamesmark
You might wanna change the advert by saying it unsharpened. I am sure it is illegal to sell a sword that has been sharpened. I collect swords and only buy swords that can be sharpened, they are sold blunt for a reason.

If you buy a Shinken from a recognised company (eg, Nine Circles) you will have a proper, live blade that will cause serious damage if used buy an idiot. I know that, however are they not under special liscence? with all this amenesty crap, That is the part I am getting at. I like yourself cannot stand these cheapo jack ones that are sold in gift shops. Alas I cannot afford a proper one but I have quite a few decent ones. Maybe one day I will have the several thousand ££££ to get a proper one made.
RedM
There are a few swords I like and, one day, when I am of high enough ability to warrant purchasing one I might have to sell the car. I need a better paid job, I really do. I'm not sure what is happening re: the law and swords. I have a newsletter somewhere that I've yet to read. I think I saw a mention of it on the cover. Pete
Nice aren't they, Pete. But there are nicer. There is a strange appeal to owning one...but I can't for the life of me work out why. Must be all those old martial arts movies I have. Watched Hannibal Rising last night, he has his moment with one.

They are mesmerising and beautiful. Take up Iai and you'll have a reason to buy one. Watched Hannibal Rising last night, he has his moment with one. Oh no, really? That'll be a bunch of noobs for the next few weeks then. The Kill Bill/Last Samurai effect.
