RedM
I know we've done this to death but events happen quickly in ISP land. A good provider one month can go downhill the next. Basically, I'm fed up to the back teeth with Plusnet and I'm thinking of migrating to Zen. Good move or not? Can anyone recommend better? Bear in mind that I can't get cable out here or ADSL2 so Sky, NTL and Be are out of the question.
tichkent
I've been really happy with Force9. It's a little expensive but the premier package is real good (fixed IP plus lower contention/higher priority on the network). Definitely works better for XBox Live than some of my mates on cheaper packages
RedM
Force9 is Plusnet IIRC.
tichkent
Think you're right there. Just checked the PlusNet web site and it looks identical (in every way other than the logo!) to the Force9 site. Still - they've been excellent for me in terms of reliability and speed. I guess it'll depend heavily on where you are (and maybe on whether you're on the premier account or the standard one).
MrHanky
What issues are you having with Plusnet? I had heard good things about this ISP and was going to join them as soon as my shitty Sky contract finished. Thanks Mark
RedM
I'm on Plusnet's Broadband Plus service. The monthly usage allowance is 50gb off peak allowance (midnight - 4pm) 4gb peak allowance (4pm-midnight) However, they only budget for an average user using only 1.5gb at peak time per month and those that use more cost Plusnet money. So, they've introduced a traffic-shaping system that penalises you for using more that they'd like but less that your actual allowance! On top of this the sysytem doesn't work properly and won't do for at least a month. Even light users are being penalised and the horror is that speeds drop to ISDN speeds. No-one at PN has apologised and when I was critical of them for not apologising and generally being a bunch of c**ts their forum MODs threatened to ban me. PN keep suggesting changing to PAYG which works out more expensive for my average usage (2.5gb @ peak times) or their Premier service. Loads of money that. My argument is that if you give someone a cup of tea you shouldn't be bothered if they actually drink the whole cup but they don't see it like that. Gamer
I have been using Nildram for over 5 years now and I am very happy with the service I have received from them. Although it must be said that I am on a business connection (at home) and as such I have no BW limits.
