SupraAyf
OK guys, its that fluid and service time again for the Supra so I thought I would visit my local Toyota dealer to get some Red-4-Life coolant. I was also after some brake fluid but I was only expecting them to have the stock DOT 4 that I didn't want. Anyway, this is what I got and I was quite surprised to find that the Toyota fluid was DOT 5.1 Any thoughts on this stuff?

Kite
How does the Toyota brake fluid dot 5.1 compare with the TRD brake fluid? Is there any benefits of buying the TRD one?
SimonB
The DOT bit is a standard that states the minimum temperature before the fluid boils. So any DOT 5.1 fluid has to meet the standard, but can exceed it if they want. So stuff like the Motul racing stuff exceeds DOT5.1, I suspect TRD is the same. Having said that, DOT5.1 is plenty high enough anyway, so the basic answer is no, not really!
Mike B
Did I not read in the mkiv us manual that toyota do not recommend anything past dot4? Lots of people use 5.1 and have no problems though...?
