SUPRASUZUKI
Sweet. Roll on Donnington in April. Bring your K5 Jamie, a good chance to give it a good workout. I've got a mate living in Oz who's just done a track day a Phillip Island. Lucky b*****. Kosmic, my guess is it's standard.... "they all do that sir":d

Feakins
Hey can I ask you bikers some advice....My buddy is 22, just doing his bike test and has seen an R1 for sale cheap and really wants it. This is obviously a stupid quick bike and definately shouldn't be a first bike for anyone. First I thought he wouldn't get insurance but he has done a quote online and got it for 1200, must be wrong though surely?? He's saying he might get it and sell it on but I know he'll be tempted to ride it. Even if he's sensible on it, its not a wise idea is it!? JamieP
Early R1 is lethal, ive had some awesome tank slaps on them to the point where i snapped the lock stops of once. not a good bike for a learner, later 03 onwards are much tamer and easy to ride. rik
Depends what kind of person he is really. First reaction would be to say bad idea. R1 is very fast and and needs to be ridden with confidence. But if he's sensible then may be ok.
Feakins
He's fairly sensible has done advanced driving test for police but with something like that your always tempted and I think its a bloody risky idea.

Early gsxr were bad as well. Sprained both wrists once when it got a bit lively going over a level crossing

Thing is with bikes, is the margins are much more narrow. You can be the most sensible person on the road and still get caught napping . There's lots you only learn through experiance. Feakins
Definately, its got to be like getting a Supra at 17. I had so many near misses on my first year of driving and so did he!
JamieP
Make a mistake in a car and you get away with going to the bodyshop, make a mistake on a motorbike and your going to the graveyard.
SUPRASUZUKI
22yo with an R1? Sounds worrying. If he's sensible and can learn to ignore the urge to rag it all over the place, and he's lucky, he'll be ok. If he fails on either of these two points he needs to be wearing decent gear. Feakins
Yeah 22 and no bike experience which is more worrying, well actually he had a 125cc for about a month.

An R1 isn't something I'd choose as a first bike.
