Feakins Posted February 14, 2007 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Hey can I ask you bikers some advice....My buddy is 22, just doing his bike test and has seen an R1 for sale cheap and really wants it. This is obviously a stupid quick bike and definately shouldn't be a first bike for anyone. First I thought he wouldn't get insurance but he has done a quote online and got it for 1200, must be wrong though surely?? He's saying he might get it and sell it on but I know he'll be tempted to ride it. Even if he's sensible on it, its not a wise idea is it!? JamieP Posted February 14, 2007 Author Share Posted February 14, 2007 Early R1 is lethal, ive had some awesome tank slaps on them to the point where i snapped the lock stops of once. not a good bike for a learner, later 03 onwards are much tamer and easy to ride. Thing is with bikes, is the margins are much more narrow. You can be the most sensible person on the road and still get caught napping . There's lots you only learn through experiance. If he's sensible and can learn to ignore the urge to rag it all over the place, and he's lucky, he'll be ok. If he fails on either of these two points he needs to be wearing decent gear.
