carl0s
OK, so I'm going to have to cut the plastic backing, no worries, and also the actual oem dial face, which is a worry because there's no going back on that one. But I reckon this will fit. The gauge itself is digital and very slim. Jake
Ben (SoonTo) has done a very similar thing with his AFR gauge
carl0s
hmmm. I'm about to give up and decide not to do it. The gauge doesn't fit in with the connector in the back (it's like half an ATX power connector), so I'd have to solder directly onto that, which is fine I suppose, and.. well, I can see it being messy. What's bothering me the most though is that I'd have to epoxy the gauge in place by glueing its face onto the dial-face piece of dash, which I don't like the sound of. hmm
carl0s
Hmmmmmm. I've got it to fit in there, using the backplate bracket off a network card to support it, and although there's a bulge and one of the clips isn't closed properly on the housing, it does look ok.... hmmmm. Might just go for it http://www2.css-networks.com/boostgauge/3.jpg

carl0s
No going back now All the required wires are soldered and routed out of the cluster ready for soldering to the sensors. I need to decide on a suitable connector now though because I hate not being able to unplug things - like the god damn foglight switch that's been fitted to my car. Sorry about picture sizes, I'm on my new laptop as the battery has died in the old one, and I haven't loaded up any software on here yet. http://www2.css-networks.com/boostgauge/4.jpg http://www2.css-networks.com/boostgauge/5.jpg http://www2.css-networks.com/boostgauge/6.jpg

carl0s
Now, I don't particularly think it looks great or anything, but I think it's a tidy solution to a problem - i.e. not having a decent boost gauge. I get to keep the clock, and I do like the facelift clock. I would have sacrificed the clock quite happily though it's just that this 52mm gauge doesn't fit in the bigger facelift clock hole, so.. all good I hope. http://www2.css-networks.com/boostgauge/7.jpg

Stonkin
looking good matey, its almost a shame to have the facelift gauge in there if your going to add another decent one somewhere else. well done
carl0s
I just hope the car doesn't care that I've removed the OEM boost stepper-motor.
carl0s
I went for Molex connectors because that's all I had lying around. http://www2.css-networks.com/boostgauge/9.jpg All done! Sorted! I need to tweak it a bit, with some light-blocking stuff because there isn't enough contrast due to the dash-lights, also I'm not confident that the unit is receiving enough current from the 12v feed on the back of the speedo face. Happy though I haven't actually fitted the boost sensor yet, but it's ready to plug & play http://www2.css-networks.com/boostgauge/10.jpg

sdavies
Balls of steel Amigo I hate "chopping" anything up, even with good instructions, let alone on a glimmer of a thought and a cunning plan (I always regret these when half way through I realise there was something I hadn't thought of - eek). Looks like you are on to a winner though.
RobSheffield
Looks nice, but maybe an anologue guage would have been better? Going to be hard to 'see' the boost as it flickers about so much Still, good effort
imi
well, those analog fuel gauges and temp gauges look crap now... me thinks its time he changes them over too
Homer
Great work Carlos Looks superb This has been bothering me since I bought then car but the pre-facelift tach looks a like a child wrote it. The facelift ones look FAR better. Anyone know if they can be swapped out? I know the speedo can't be swapped due to the counter but maybe the tach can. Not seen this discussed on here yet...
