lui
Heard on the radio over the weekend that from the 27th February this month if you are caught using a mobile phone when driving it's 3 points on your license & £60.00 fine as well SO BEWARE ALL
Al Massey
the fine is anything from £60,upto the copper issueing, crap aint it
DaveK
Good. A (wired) hands free kit only costs about £10 and it's very obvious when the driver in front of you is on the phone - they drive like complete knobs.

Robert
Im happy, i hate seeing drivers holding thier mobiles and talking and they are obviously not concentrating, the bigger the fine and points the better.
stevie_b
Excellent. For those drivers who do this, I hope their phone call is less important than points and a fine. According to them, the call is more important than the safety of those around them. I think that maybe hands-free should be banned as well. I don't think it's holding something in your hand that makes you a bad driver (although that will definitely come into play with a manual car when gear changes are necessary), I think it's having a conversation with someone not in the car. When talking to passengers, they can see what you're doing so they can see when you need to concentrate for a bit, hence you don't feel obliged to keep the conversation flowing. hogmaw
I spent £50 on a hands free kit and the stupid thing wouldn't work when driving BUT activated the immobiliser and set off my alarm if used when I was parked... wtf I use the phone when driving, but keep calls short
Pabs
i hope the punishment goes UP even further. NO excuse for not having a handsfree kit. They are so cheap now - I had an earpiece type one - got it FREE with the phone (or £20 off the shelf) and worked well. I now have an £80 parrot kit - faultless - love it to bits. People who don't have one deserve the fine and points IMO.
Supe
What if you have a MP3 phone, I've got the w800i and have got it connected to the stereo on the mr2, if I was changing tracks, Would I be commiting an offence?

Kranz
I've had a bus driver on the phone while negotiating a mini roundabout, with his double decker bus full of passengers! Also had a 32 ton skip truck, again on a mini roundabout, bearing down on me attempting to control the vehicle with one hand... almost squashed the marked car I was in. Bring on the fines and points!!
Kranz
What if you have a MP3 phone, I've got the w800i and have got it connected to the stereo on the mr2, if I was changing tracks, Would I be commiting an offence? Yes, I believe that even touching it can get you in trouble, especially if its not attached to the car in a semi-permenant way: "You can also be prosecuted for using a hands-free mobile phone if you are not in proper control of your vehicle. The penalties will be the same as for using a hand-held phone. And the penalties for driving carelessly or dangerously when using any phone can include disqualification, a large fine and up to two years imprisonment" So make sure your phone's not in your hand while dialling/changing tracks. Or just set up a playlist before you set off?
Pabs
i nearly lost my best mate last week because of the idiot driver. Ok - it wasn't a mobile, but he was playing with his IPOD. Ran over the rumble strip into the central reservation parts, counter acted when he realised, then rolled the 2yr old car 4 or 5 times. My mate was a passenger, with 3 others. NOBODY was seriously hurt (thank god) but had there been another car nearby i think i'd be at a funeral this week. Its because phones/mp3's are small and fiddly - you're trying to read a screen thats 2inches square, with txt sooo small.... I think if there was some kind of generic HUD on the windscreen it'd be a huge life-saver. And easier to navigate audio systems.
Guest Phillw454
i dont see why people need to use the phone while driving anyway!! its rarely that important that you cant stop in 10mins and call back
Chewie
If I was El Presidente, I'd say if you spot somebody on their phone while driving and can prove it then you should get paid their fine. Nice little earner. Then you'd soon see everybody stop yakking while driving. Now would you get nicked for photographing with your camera phone while driving. DOH!!! Might work if you're a pedestrian.
markjodrell
Hands up, I use mine while driving. I dont actually make calls but if it rings my curiosity makes me answer it, just in case its an emergency. If on a/b roads I will attempt to pull over first, but on the motorway I will answer, though make it very brief. HOWEVER , that was before the points thing , from now on I will NOT use it , not getting points for a poxy phone call. FINES alone dont work for anything driving related, wether it be speeding , drink driving , phoning. Points are alot more effective
SimonB
Good, now all they need to do is do the same for people smoking while driving...
Chewie
Okay how about this? You've got a zillion points on your licence. You see somebody yakking on their mobile while driving and shop them to the fuzz and for being a reformed law abiding citizen get to transfer some of your points onto their ticket? Is that a good one?

ivan
About time they introduced a more realistic punishment too. Now all they gotta do is actually try to enforce it!
