Henk
Please read!!They kept that quiet! ……………… More 'sneaky' government legislation by stealth methods If you have not already objected please read below. Send to everyone you know, only one month left to act !!!!! If you drive a car, please read and act – it will take less than 2 minutes of your time- Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2. Apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax. The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the government to at least take any notice. Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition. The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill. If you are concerned about this Orwellian plan and want to stop the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. Sign up if you value your freedom and democratic rights - http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax And don't forget to acknowledge the government's return email when you get it or your objection will not be registered

Gamer
As much as I would like to see this petition be successful I feel that it is a waste of time. The Gov did not listen when over 1 million snooty people marched to Downing street to protest over taking away their right to kill foxes. What makes you think the Gov will care one bit about a petition that was made via the Internet. Especially when all they can see is £££ signs, this means big money to them. In fact I think the Gov placed this new Beta petition garbage on the Internet to stop future marches for their heads on a stick that could get ugly or even uglier than the hunting marches did. Lewis
Actually, this is all true, my friend Dr Ebola A Ids was telling me about it in the email he sent me. Basically, he is from a war-torn part of the world and he was sayin gthat if I give him my bank details he will send me $1,0000,00000,0000 and then I need to give him £5 back (for tax purposes) and then he will provide me with the money to fight Sarah Kennedy and the evil dictator infidel government of UK. He went on to say that 2 fit birds will mug me in tesco while a car with flashing blue lights that looks like a police car but isn't will pull me over and a number of other pin thievery attempts will be made on me. It's the future I tells thee. "Hen4732" run a search, perhaps you could try typing "most amount of times some shit spam is posted on t'internet" that should yield fruit

DaveK
Although I don't want a black box in my car that could be monitoring my speed - I do believe that something needs to be done about congestion and if that means increased prices, so be it. When I drive in France I know exactly how long my journey will take. I know how far I'm going, I can pretty much choose what speed I want to average on the motorway so I know when I'll arrive. In the UK it's a joke. One weekend my g/f was flying over from Cannes to Luton (2 hour flight). She took off from Nice airport at the same time I left Camberley (50 mile drive to Luton airport) on a Friday afternoon. She arrived at Luton before me, was through immigration and drinking coffee in a cafe by the time I arrived.

DaveK
Or the 2million of us against the Iraq invasion...... Whoever said that this was democracy........ Ah, but that was different. I distinctly remember seeing the PM on TV just before the invasion - and although he said they couldn't give us details (due to national security) he assured us they definitely knew there were WMDs there and they would definitely be able to prove it when they invaded. So I think it was OK in that case.
