Sheefa
I'm getting quite a bit of brake squeal at the moment, have been over the last month anyway. I had new disks, CW pads and refurbed calipers fitted in August by Chris Wilson and have only covered about 2,000 miles since. They stop fine, and the more pressure I apply the squealing seems to die out. Just wondered if it's the cold weather or cold startup or something else? Not being paranoid as I know they work very well indeed, just wondered what the cause might be and what you can do to stop it bloody irritating the hell out of you! Thanks, Greg
Pete
Any grit/salt much stuck in between pads?
terawua
Mine squealed with CW pads.... an acceptable trait given the braking benefits.
Konrad
Maybe antisqueal shim is packing up?
Sheefa
Don't know Pete. Need to get the pressure hose on there just in case though. Haven't cleaned the car since my trip to Hecklers, but they were squeaking a little before. Terawua - you're right about them being worth it. But they didn't squeal at the start when first fitted that's for sure.
jamesmark
I am positive like mentioned that CW ones do squeal, but the benifets out weigh the squeal by a mile. I am sure CW will be able to advise you if you phone him.
Pete
I've got a feeling he did mention this to me too.
jamesmark
Dunno if it helps but post 8 http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=63143&highlight=Squeal
Sheefa
That's great James and co. Thank you. Just what I needed to know to put my mind at rest! They seem to squeal far less when hotter too.
Chiefgroover
Be worth checking if the shims were left out? bit of copper grease on the back of the pads helps too.
Chris Wilson
I never fit anti squeal shims with my pads, as the pedal feel is noticeably compromised. I have some special shims here which should cure it if it bugs you, but the pedal won't feel as solid.
Bobbeh
Had a feeling they'd have been left out
Sheefa
Chris, to be honest, it doesn't really bother me, only at times I wouldn't want to compromise on anything (I've done that in the past!) so I'll stick with the good setup I have thanks mate. Thank you for clarifying though - that's all I wanted. Just want to make sure nothing is wrong............ Greg
Chiefgroover
NO shims buggs the life outta me, thats why i always do my own brakes, if the pad is carbon/metal and you have 5.1 and goodridge lines, then the feel is excellent.
