loks
I've been there few times Patong Beach for the action Kata Beach or other beach areas south of Patong for quieter beach holidays IMO Plenty of hotels though... my advice would be to book a decent hotel for a couple of nights, hire a jeep or something, drive around the island until you find a particular resort/area that suits your taste. You can drive around the whole Phuket island in one day. I can only comment on a couple of hotels: http://www.patong-beach.com/maps/index.htm Casaurina - small hotel with a few quite large rooms but haven't stayed there for few years, so might have aged a little. Royal Paradise - Nice large hotel BUT do not stay there if you are slightly homophobic. The place is surrounded by gay (mostly German run ) and ladyboy bars.... you run the gauntlet every night when returning to the hotel after a few beers. Believe some of the these ladyboys are stunning. HTH

johnnyknox
I recommend a trip to Bangkok if possible, if only for a couple of days for the experience. A couple of days is enough, trust me

johnnyknox
ladyboy love then lol, ermmm I forgot to mention...use caution!! Quick story: Was walking the streets of Bangkok with my GF one evening and we passed a group of Thai blokes, they all shouted something across and made rude gestures, so I told them to get lost. We carried on walking until we got to a dead end (great I thought to myself, we have to walk back past those pricks!). So I said to my GF lets just pop in here for a drink first. We go in and order a couple of drinks and my GF is just smiling at me....so I eventually ask her what's so amusing, to which she replies, wow, you still haven't worked it out. So I look around and eventually realise we are in a gay bar. Then when we leave my GF says...not just a gay bar but a gay street and those guys were making those gestures at you, not me!!.....DOH!
