mathew
me and the mom are having a completely over the top debate about how to make a cup of tea. she says milk first i say milk last. my theory is that if milk is put in first it cools the hot water and therefore not allowing maximum dissolve-ation (or what ever its called)of the suger and also lowering the performance of the tea bag as it obviosly works better the hotter the water is. i also notice the difference when its made either way. maybe im looking into all this a bit too much and being to fussy or maybe im just sooooooo fooking bored i aint got nowt else to do
terribleturner
Well infact a real proper cup of tea should have NO milk at all. Im more of a tea bag out, sugar in, stir, milk, and stir again.

michael
I don't drink tea but aren't you supposed to pour hot water onto the leaves to get the best taste out of them? Scorch tea, warm coffee.. isn't it?
stupra
I always put the milk in last.
markjodrell
apparently the experts say that the mik should go in first, It always did when you made a pot of tea. Its just the we all put tea bags in the cup these days. Putting the hot water in first is supposed to ruin the delicate flavour of the tae, Coffee is fine putting the milk in after as it has a stronger flavour which wont be ruined

ChrisSZ
Milk in last!! That way you can tell how much to put in b the colour of the tea. If you put the milk in first you can't then alter the tea/milk ratio and might end up with one of those horrible cups of tea that look like tanned milk:(

Charlotte
I know I shouldn't but I always put the milk in with the teabag if I'm making it in a cup. The water is so scummy here it eliminates the scum on top if the milk is in too.

Bobbeh
Wrong way around! Milk last in tea, first in coffee. No, if you put milk in coffee first its harder for the granules to dissolve (if you use instant that is) If you boil the crap out of tea you get all the shite floating to the top which looks nasty, so a little dash in before the hot water you dont get that. (Charlotte knows whats up ) They both taste smoother too
MONKEYmark
milk last if you put milk in with teabag then pour water in it seems to not mash like its clogged the bag. with coffee i like milk in first then 2 heaped table spoons of coffee i tend to drink tea at home and coffee at work
Guest deanweller
me and my mum argue this all the time too, i prefer milk first she likes it last, if we're making each other the cup of tea it gets annoying cos like you said it is noticable, i just like milky tea, also with coffee its gotta be coffee, sugar, water, milk,
ivan
Teabag in cup - milk last. Tea or teabag in pot - milk first. My Great Aunt was a stickler for doing things the right way.

sdavies
This is not so much these days but; Apparently the order you add the milk used to determine class If you were not so well to do and couldn't afford high quality china tea sets, pouring hot water straight into cold cups had the potential to crack them. In order to safeguard the lower quality tea cups, cold milk was added first to buffer the hot water. If you had high quality china, you could add the hot tea before any optional milk and be safe in the knowledge that your snobby china will be no worse for ware! p.s. Tea from the pot, milk first. Tea a-la cup milk last. Edit: Like you need any more proof???
RedM
Milk last always and leave the bag in for the whole time. Right to the end of the cup. Lovely and strong. Milk in coffee? You wimps.
Kopite
Didn't a uni do a £4mil study into this and conclude that milk goes in first? Remember this from about 3 years ago. I always do water in, bag out, then milk, stir, drink
Pete
Milk in first, poor hot water fast and directly onto tea bag (not allowed to get wet with the milk). This inflates the bag allowing the leaves to circulate. 1 min brew, quick squeeze and you're done. Of course the best way to drink tea is without milk at all. (in a china pot and cup) Milk removes all the beneficials - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6241139.stm
