It all depends on the individual car really. You get good uks and good japs. Equally you get bad uks and bad japs.

 

Insurance will be cheaper on a uk. But it doesnt make that much difference, especially when you get older.

 

As for modifying, makes no real difference really. However you do have better brakes on a uk. But a uk will cost you more.

 

 

 

If i were buying another supra, it would be a Jap though. This is because they are rust free usually, and you get later models like the vvti's.

looking for twin turbo will want to modify it, any one got any preferences of uk spec or jap spec.

For light modifications, UKSpec is a much better base (as a bonus you'll be able to check the mileage more easily)

 

For heavy mods, it won't matter, since you'll change all of the things that are different anyway.

 

If it's got to be less than 10 years old, then jap is your only option obviously.

I would (and did) choose to go with a Jap model, but it would have to be a facelift model because I prefer the external looks and the dashboard layout.

advantages of uk cars are insurance costs and brakes but if you are going to heavily modify it then go jap as insurance won't be much cheaper when you get into modified territory. You will also pick up a jap supra cheaper than UK in standard form

I echo what has been said above, having had arious supra's (although not had a vvti yet), I would go for a facelift J-spec, I luuuuurve my dash layout and the dash materials of the facelift, so much better than pre-facelift.

U.K. Heated leather seats, cruise control, active spoiler, better brakes, cheaper insurance, stronger turb.......etc. etc.

 

In fact buy mine.

 

Oh and you don't have to suffer the lecture about imports from the dude behind the counter of your local Toyota dealer.

Base your decision totally on the condition and age of the car you can get for your budget.

 

Neither car is superior really , they've all got their advantages and disadvantages.

 

Personally I would always go for the newest one that I could afford.
