Transmission Vibration?

Need4Speed

Recommended Posts

I've got a vibration which at first appeared to be rear wheel balance, but I suspect it's not. I've had the wheels balanced again.

Between about 40mph and 65mph I get a vibration which is just felt through the car itaself, not through the steering, which is diminishes when the throttle is taken off. I don't need to be hard on the throttle - it's there on cruise at 60mph - but there needs to be some driving load through the transmission. There's no sign of it at speed.

I suspect the prop-shaft.

Any ideas.

TX oil is the correct stuff and is fairly new.

It could well be the propshaft. I have a Skyline GTR here that had been to several "specialists" with a similar vibration, to no avail. 2 minutes after it went up in the air it was obvious that one of the staked cups on the propshaft front spider had walked nearly out of the coupling. Knocked it back in, car drove perfectly, sent the guy to a propshaft reconditioners to get it fixed...

I'll get the car up and have a look Chris. What I didn't want to hear was "Your torque converter is shot!". Feels like something that is anti-vibration mounted but the anti-vibration bit is worn or loose etc. I suspect, like your Skyline, it will be obvious once I take a decent look.
