JustGav
Starting this purely so to not hijack CW's thread AGAIN Even though he always gives great advice. Okay, how it stands at the moment is... My friend has a mini that has been building for the past year which he just never got round to as such, and we are now all jumping in purely because he was nervous regarding ECU's and stuff. The engine has comeout of a MG metro turbo, and is going to be fully rebuilt. The a-series engine is an absolute hoot to work on because it is so basic. The inital part list that we are putting together includes... New weight matched low compression pistons Weighted and then balanced rods New bearings Going to be porting/flowing and enlarging the combustion chamber on the head ala Dave Vizzard's recommendations All new ARP studs throughout Dual timing chain. Standard MG metro turbo cam (as this is one of the best going) Removing the old carb, and replacing it with something to hold the injectors (Still not 100% of how we intend to do this, either using a later intake manifold which had injection or going something completely custom).. Injector sizing? well, not really considered that bit yet...still need to work out some figures. The standalone ECU will be a megasquirter with the extra spark control system on it. Turbo wise?? I'm seriously considering using an XS power unit, due to the cost (My mate doesn't have unlimited funds)...Not 100% on it yet.. http://www.xs-power.com/turbos/turbo002.html I'll add the bits and pieces as we think about them and do it. Kranz
How about going for a Webber Alpha throttle body (looks like a 45 DCOE and has same dimensions) and attaching it to a good manifold for a DCOE??
Todd
bit of a thread hijack but is there not a mini running around with a MR2 tubby engine in it? Sure I've seen it on MR2OC months ago.

Now that is so out of his budget...... I'm still trying to convince him to put gas on it for a laugh... Given that the block is solid as hell, the head is solid cast as well, and it is going to be held together by some VERY strong ARP bolts... JustGav
You need spare ARP's I have a box of them. If they would fit a mini, I'll definitely say yes, and Phil will get the beers in.
