imi
BTW, what do the accustic experts recommend, which would be most suitable to mount in the front door enclosure? With the plastic enclosure removed it'll need matting for sure, but wouldn't mdf more flexible than ABS (i.e dampen the speaker response). Or am I talking crap again? If one has a SUB in the car then that would make a difference to the bass response to the fronts. without a sub, the fronts vibrate a LOT (especially a 17cm speaker) - with a sub, the fronts don't Question: So if I have a sub - would I need these? ______________________________________________________________ Matt Harwood has installed my ICE and didn't deem this mount to be useful when I asked him about it. Like I said, with a sub, the fronts don't vibrate much at all...so perhaps not needed. I trust Matt on all aspect especially ICE so unless he says so, I wont be putting my name down. Still they don't cost much and seems like a great opportunity to pick these up anyway.. decisions decisions.....
Homer
If one has a SUB in the car then that would make a difference to the bass response to the fronts. without a sub, the front vibrate a LOT (especially a 17cm speaker) - with a sub, the front dont produce much or any bass - so the vibrations are minimal... Question: So if I have a sub - would I need these? If you're using head-unit outputs for the fronts (as 99% of us are), then its irrelevant. The signal to the front speakers remains the same regardless of whether you use pre-out for a sub or not. Hopefully Matt will be able to respond as I know from previous discussions he has strong opinions for getting good performance from the fronts
RobSheffield
Im no expert Darryl, but i have the MDF brackets, and i dont think they dampen the response at all. As you point out, the presence or absence of a sub will make no difference to the front.
imi
If you're using head-unit outputs for the fronts (as 99% of us are), then its irrelevant. The signal to the front speakers remains the same regardless of whether you use pre-out for a sub or not. I dont think it does. With my old setup where I had a separate AMP for the SUB ONLY and all four speakers powered by my head unit. The fronts didn't produce that much bass when the sub was switched on. The HU routed most of the low frequencies to the sub and not to the speakers.....(built-in X-over) Anyway - I think like I said, since Matt is happy with my setup (no expense spared) I will probably give this a miss..... Thx for the discussion though.
sdavies
It must depend on the head unit how it handles re-direction of any signals (if at all). Sympathetic ICE component installations probably behave better than the vast majority of folks installations I for one am not overly famililar with most of the ICE specifics, but being one of the folk that can't tell CD from Vinyl, digital from analogue on the best part I guess my view counts for little I would just like the ability to add something better than stock without adding too much extra weight with possibility to change speakers later - I am pretty sure the door cards interfere something rotten with the acoustics regardless of brackets - anyroad, count me in - I've had enough of my stockers: 1.Sheefa (MR-MDF - Fitted and Sealed Speaker Rings) 2.Stevie_b (MR-MDF - Fitted and Sealed Speaker Rings) 3.m45sey (MR-MDF) 4.Chris and Alana? Flip
sorry to bring this up again, but what is the weight difference between the two flavours?
stevie_b
If one has a SUB in the car then that would make a difference to the bass response to the fronts. without a sub, the fronts vibrate a LOT (especially a 17cm speaker) - with a sub, the fronts don't Question: So if I have a sub - would I need these? imi, I can understand your dilemma, especially if Matt H said you didn't need them. From a layman's point of view, I would think it's more a question of "what size speakers do I want/have I got in the front?" Irrespective of whether you have an amp or a sub, the front speakers should be properly mounted. If they're already mounted to something suitable and you're happy with the speakers you have, then you wouldn't need these brackets. If they're mounted to the door cards directly or gaffer-taped to something, then I would suggest you'd benefit from the brackets. High quality components (HU, sub, amp, the speakers themselves) can't make up for poorly-mounted speakers. My guess is that Matt H meant you've already got suitable brackets for the speakers you've got.
