SUPRALOOPY
On monday night i was training at the gym, and alot of the machines were busy, So i went to an overhead pulley machine with my mate chris and put the correct handle on to do triceps. I have never used this machine to do triceps before and asked chris what to do? He tells me to stand with back to the machine, with my arms up and pull forward above your head to work the tricep muscles. As I did this the pulley part of the machine and the cable came down and smacked me on the head, resulting in a two and half inch gash in my head and lots of claret. Is this my fault or the gyms? as the machine should not try and kill you should it? The gym has phoned to see if i'm ok but thats it! Should i make a claim or talk to them first and see how it goes? This is what i'm left with, a nasty cut and a big scar that i can't hide cos i'm bald:rolleyes: Oh and a headache:D
Guest mk47
damnnn dave! now you look like a proper thug. dont worry too much about it and besides you go there every day youd ruin that and plus they could just put it down to you being careless while using it? hope your ok though. Guest Nicholas
Were you using the machine properly? if so then I'd consider a claim. If not then you have no chance. Hope you feel better soon.
DaveK
I'm not quite sure of one thing : did something go wrong with the machine - and that's why it injured you - or was it because you used it incorrectly? If there was a problem with the machine, I would expect compensation from the gym. However if it's just because you did not use it correctly, I don't think it is their fault. Gym's tend to say you shouldn't use the equipment without being shown how - and all the machines have moving parts so in theory you could hurt yourself on any of them if you tried hard enough. Charlotte
That's harsh! Did they show you how to use the machines when you first started using the gym?
AlanM
Either way you have a claim mate. If the machine was faulty its obvious, and if you didn't know what you were doing then they should not have let you in the room
SUPRALOOPY
there are a couple of the machines that when loaded they slip. I:E leg machine. This machine has multi holed platform so you can use it on the floor or standing up. This machine has a pin that locates in the hole and has been known to slip. If the machine was faulty its obvious, and if you didn't know what you were doing then they should not have let you in the room I'm not convinced by that - my gym shows you how to use the stuff over a period of several introductory sessions. They also ask you what equipment you want to use - and advise you to ask for additional training if you want to use anything new.
jamesmark
It's a bloody scratch I have had a bigger paper cut. You have to act properly by claiming you knew how to work it. The moment you admit you were a first timer on it then you have no claim as such, or you could say that there was no supervision or guidance but then I am sure the sportscentre will say you should not attempt without asking. Charlotte
My gym offer an introductory session but you are free to use any machine you want without guidance.

Thats some paper you use. I have been using most of the machines for 6 months now.

silvershark44
What do you want to make a claim for? Probably a new bodykit or single conversion naa mate seriously, just eat it up, youll be fine, we all get bumps from time to time. I had to save a guy from strangling himself with a barbell the otherday. His fault entirely. Maybe try and get a fee free personal training sessions out of it. they may got for that. Chewie
I vote gym's fault. Unless you're the Incredible Bulk there's now way you could pull a pulley off the frame. And even if you were using it incorrectly, there should have been adequate supervision to prevent meat head muscle Marys from tearing a new arse in their heads with their dodgy gym equipment. I'm amazed nobody gets mashed in our gym. They never check the kit and rarely have anybody hypervising (one up from supervising). Nice scar, if you don't like it, grow some hair. Jake
What is it with people wanting to "make a claim" for every single thing nowadays? I couldn't be bothered with all the hassle of it. How much do you suppose you'll get for a trivial cut like that anyway?

SupraAyf
I'm in the same mind as Jake on the topic of claims - but aren't you supposed to have an induction course for insurance purposes prior to using any of the equipment?
Pig
I would say ty for membership, otherwise take it on the chin and just thank your lucky stars as you could have "needed" to make a claim!
Dave Haggas
What would I do? Stay out of the gym! Freeweights are the way to go.Machines are for the Ladies....
RobSheffield
Tough one i guess.... On the one hand you werent trained to use the machine, yet on the other hand, from the sounds of the description of the machine, it REALLY shouldnt be bashing you on the head (IYSWIM)
