dibbleyuk
I noticed the thread on pay rise's Im on a seriously low wage im young but started on 10k as a trainee reprographic operator, i am now fully trained and got a pay rise march last year to 12k which still is very low but was hopping that would change and rise pretty rapidly as i was fully trained and the average wage for someone doing my job is 25k, just found out they have taken on another guy in epping as a trainee who is 23 and started him on 18k im so angry!! im acturly running my own branch on a building site atm so i get 1hr's overtime everyday as i eat and work so dont have a lunch break and £20week petrol so it helps a little, but i believe im due a serious rise! i must be trusted by my company to be left to run this branch on my own and would like to be shown they apreciate what i do. What can i do this is my first proper job and i really enjoy it i just dont know what to do! Help me out please.

When you have a better offer, go to your current employer and politely state that you plan to leave. If they think you are worth it, they will up your wages!! You've had a 20% rise in their eyes but it is still shit money!! It's basic maths!! If you get 25% of fuck all it's still fuck all. I get a 3% rise last year and that amounted to over a grand!! H. edd_t
im in a similar situation. the company know you like the place. so they are trying to get away with giving you rubbish pay. i've found in the past an informal word usually does the best. just say that you think you should be on more, and know that other are, and that you like your job but arnt too happy. Yeah, that approach worked for me in my 20's tbh, but I didn't get as much as I would have done if I had have moved. Problem is if you get a reputation for moving you sacrifice your credibility too!! I would still have a back up plan if I were you. If your boss is a serious arse, you could have your card marked. If your employed thinks your happy on 12K then nothing will change. If you were the boss would you give rises to people who don't expect it?? H.
mikeyb10supra
There never going to offer you a pay rise unless you speak up, all the while there paying you pennies there going to be more than happy to pay you it as its saving them a lot of money and will also presume your happy. Only way is to make a song and dance about it, and failing that look for a new job and state your salary expectations at the start
2JG
I was in a similar position in my old job, had a load of responsibility and people all around me were earning £5k - £6K more than me! And I was doing the same job... but better. I just spoke to my managers and explained to them how I was feeling and that I couldn't get through the month with what I was earning, never really threatened to leave just in case they called my bluff. The increase did come after 6 months though.
dibbleyuk
Well basicly i do have a manager and he thinks that we are all due a desent rise but he is focused on his pay at the moment more than ours as he hasnt had his money up from supervisor pay to manager pay and he has been manager for 14months that his problem, i have spoken to him a few time about it but not alot is going on i dont want to piss him off by going behind his back and going to someone higher up because in the long run it mite cost me my job. I really would like a minimum of 16k for what i doing 18 would be great! but i dont see them increasing my pay by that much. Things where going great with our branch untill the directors got the hump a few months back and now arnt very happy with us as a group the guy who used to run this branch im running upset alot of customers so they moved him back to the main branch when he should have been sacked tbh and thats when it started and thats how i ended up running this branch and im doing really well keeping everyone happy but it did feel like after that we was being picked on abit because we where getting acused of not passing on messages when we knew we had etc etc. they are also pissed off that our figures droped but they always do in the winter we broke the recored 4 months in a row in the summer and just dont get any apreciation for it. so as for asking for more money when they are abit humpy atm isnt a good idea but i serious need something sorted its getting me down i love my job and the people i work with are great but i just need more money. Max Headroom
I worked for Specsavers as a fully qualified Optical Assistant and my basic was £9.8K. I moved jobs to be a Residential Childcare Worker and I am now on £14.5K. Its not the highest paid in the profession but its a 50% rise for me. The reason I say this is because a lot of people suffer from the fear of not knowing. You don't know what you can achieve if you don't try. Its an irrational fear that stops us doing many things, I wouldn't touch plumbing because I thought it was beyond me and I didn't know enough about it, but one day I had a go and found thar the "mystique" surrounding it wasn't all it was cracked up to be and it was actually very easy. Help me out please. hi Dibbleyuk My other half works in the same industry as you, she is a graphic designer and works closely with repro guy. She has worked for 3 or 4 small printing companies (less thay 40 staff) in and around Chelmsford area and unfortunately every company she has work for have been a bunch of money grabbing arseholes, it seems to be the nature of this business. Usually the boss is in his late 50s/60s and no longer has any interest in the running of the company as long as its providing him with an income. Normally his mate or some other has-been is now in control of the company but hasn't the slightest clue what his is doing, so he is probably totally unaware that you're being underpaid or has his hands tied and can't do anything about it. For example my GF was promised when she accepted the job she would have a pay review 6 months after with a guaranteed payrise of at least a few thousand, as the company went into financial problems it never happend. She been there over 4 years now, when she started there were 5 graphic designers, they have left and she covers the whole department on her own getting in early, staying late no lunch breaks etc...shes been doing this for over a year and no management has acknowledged this let alone said thanks! to rub salt into the wounds she had her first and only day of sick due to being stressed out and run down in november and they deducted it from her decembers salary !!! thats some xmas bonus. cutns !!! in the 4 years everyone in the company had one payrise of £500 pa. which i feel is totally ludicrous and have told her to leave and find another job. Theres plenty about but all in the city and she doesn't want to travel. you should may be look into working for a large corporate company maybe the american banks, with inhouse printing in the city liverpool street area, they will have a proper HR department with salary structure and quartly reviews. Also if you have any issue you could speak directly to the HR manager who will resolve the problem immediately. Not only should they pay you a decent wage they will offer many other benefits which help with your overal package i.e. 25+ days holiday, pension, medical, travel allowance etc... well worth looking into. Konrad
There is something wrong with this payment I belive - I'm on basic payment now as a BUS DRIVER - which is seriously easy and kinda low requirements job and I have around 15k/year now, next January going to top rate which suppose to be around 21k/year (without overtime). I would talk to supervisor. Also, you are fully aware, that others on your position getting like 25k, so now with experience and after training I would take a look around for offers and point it out to manager too. What is a point to sit in one place with 12k/year if somewhere else you can fork 20k+ ?
