Went to get restrictor ring fitted today....exhaust guys didn't want to fit it due to 3'' system running from manifold straight through, making the job a very fiddly one......s'pose it wouldn't make my egt readings look healthy either, thinking about it.

Whilst on the ramps they noticed both inside shoulders of my 8000km front tyres were down to the metal belt  I know the car is very low but shit, if it wasn't on ramps you would think they looked in excellent shape.

Thing is guys....what are my options? Bear in mind i've spent over £1700 in the last 5 months, and if i say ".....look love i need to spend another £1700 on her." She will probably cut my liver out with a tea spoon!!!............thoughts please.

cheers :( :(

First thing, try another exhaust fitter, having a 3" exhaust doesn't make it any more difficult IMO. I put mine at the rear of the de-cat pipe. 10 minute job.

Secondly, you need to get new tyres, but try to get them discreetly, otherwise your wife will make an awful stain on the tea spoon, and tea would never taste the same again!

Lastly, get your wheel alignment checked, but the Supra does have negative camber as standard. So depending on what tyres you're running and how hard you drive, combined with the car being lowered, 8k miles doesn't sound too bad. I tend to get about 8-12k on mine.

What, you've got a one peice exhaust from the turbo to the tailpipe???

I usually get about 12k from my fronts.

Having a one piece exhaust from the manifold back is very odd but I can't see why they could fit the ring, it's only like fitting an exhaust to manifold gasket, or can't they fit those either? I should take it somewhere else mate.

Yeah sound advice there.

What bloody exhaust is it though??

Is it this one by chance??

It's a right fiddle getting to the manifold though, that's the point. The Mongoose system is straight through from manifold to tailpipe isn't it? I'm suprised there isn't a join in it somewhere though.

My fronts have done getting on for 15k miles, and they're still OK, never mind 8k km! What tyres are they?

I agree Jake! Although I think they were worried that if the two bolts disintegrated they would have a nightmare job getting to the join and it was almost home time. :)

I wonder if I should bite the bullet and change suspension get a new exhaust and down pipe whilst putting new front tyres on........god! the mrs is gonna really chew me out this time!!

2 bolts? That's not the manifold then! The manifold has 3 bolts to the first cat, the 1st to 2nd CAT has only got two bolts. Maybe it is the mongoose then, as I seem to recall that taking out the 2nd CAT.

Ben..

P.S. Whilst your at it, you need cams, intercooler, water injection and N2O!! :D

this may be a silly idea but could you not squeeze the main pipe somewhere to in effect create your own restriction (undoubtably difficult but there must be something man enough to do it?).

If you have a boost guage you could do it in small stages until you get where you want to beboost wise?

Simon-Goodyear F1s gsd3, its only an inch of the inside shoulders thats badly worn the rest of the tyre has about 6 months wear left.:(

Well, they do wear on the inside first due to the standard camber settings - it's to give you grip when cornering. But that sounds excessive. I'd get a full alignment check. The standard settings are on http://www.mkiv.com somewhere, together with a suggested alternative that a few people on here have tried and been pretty happy with.

It brings boost levels down when you have removed the cats, as J-specs tend to over boost, without any restrictions, the restrictor ring is just like a gasket with a small hole in it.
