DAVE-W-
Currently looking to buy a supra. The two that ive driven have had traction control and were pre 96 models. The traction control seemed as if it didnt do enough when needed. Still had the car goin sideways out a junction with it switched on! Is this right? If my gf or parents were to drive the car id want to know that hopefully the traction control would be there to save them if they gave it too much gas. But on first impressions i would have no confidence in it compared to traction control systems on modern cars. I know that the trac system was changed in 96 when the snow setting was added. Did the snow setting revamp improve the system? Much appreciated Dave Wilson
imi
Traction control is a good safety measure, however its no substitute to learning how to drive a car (especially a powerful sports car like the supra).

In the JDM cars it just cuts power by closing the sub throttle. In the UK cars it also activated the brakes. Most MKIV owners don't use it as it is far too crude and in some circumstances down right dangerous as it leaves you floundering with out power when you most need it. There will be those who tell you that your right foot is TC, but if you are concerned about mere mortals driving you car. You might consider Race Logic Traction control. If you do a search you will find this topic has been discussed many times.
Nic
Also do a search for RLTC (abreviation for Racelogic traction control) or just click the hyperlinks.

Jake
the trac system was changed in 96 when the snow setting was added. Did the snow setting revamp improve the system? No, it's still rubbish. And on Tip VVTi Supras it's an utter pain in the arse.
silvershark44
Yeah stock TC can help under light loss of traction, but once your gone i think it just makes a bad situation worse!
