TLicense
Out of interest, would fitting a lightened crank pulley, whilst already having a lightweight flywheel be a bad thing? I think I remember CW mentioning something about crank walk with a lightweight flywheel. Would this be accentuated with a lightened crank pulley? I think my pulley is on it's way. The ring is split, (ahem) I mean the rubber ring, has a crack all the way around next to the outer ring.
b_have
Dude, is yours a dampned/harmonicaly balanced pulley? any problems?
Ian C
Digsy did a good post on this a while back, citing that you can't lighten a harmonic dampener because the weight has to be an specific amount in a specific place to dampen said harmonics. It's a bit like swapping your wheel balancing weights for lightweight ones... -Ian
b_have
Dude, You have a lightweight underdrive pulley in this thread, do you still use it?
Guest Terry S
Yes as do I, + my old purple car, Leon, Titan, PHR etc....

dude
Dude' date=' You have a lightweight underdrive pulley in this thread, do you still use it?[/quote'] Lightweight but not underdriven and its very well dampned Charlie , its a BL one !!! Guest Terry S
Dude Is right they are not underdriven, but you know any issues with underdriving. Never had a problem with them mate. e careful tho, ours are sfi approved.
AeroMatt
Sorry to hijack, well not really, its still pulley based! Terry / Dude, can you tell me how to remove the alternator pulley? I'm in the process of fitting some lightweight pulleys and this one doesn't seem so straightforward to take off and I don't want to risk damaging it by forcing it the wrong way. I'd really appreciate any advice you can give me.
b_have
Ok guys, what i meant was, I am making a crank pulley using the same diameter (gearing) as the stocker although may make another with underdrive to be used in conjuction with an undersized waterpump pulley thus only effecting the less critical auxiliaries. My question was, I have yet to see an aftermarket damped crank pulley, Dude says the BL one is, can you enlighten me?
Digsy
The BL pulley does indeed have a torsional damper element. They have some technical blurb on their website. I read it a while back but I don't have the URL anymore. The stock pulley has both torsional and bending dampers.

Its easier with an Impact gun but the 'stud part of the alternator has an allen socket built into it , you need a deep throat , ring spanner and use the allen key to lock it all up .
