No2 Turbo intermittent. O.k in TTC. EGBV VSV and Actuator needed?

Evening all!

I've been scouring the forums for the intermittent fault of No2 Turbo not coming in sometimes, but if you lift off the accelerator and back down again it spools up o.k. Seems to be caused by No1 turbo working against No2 and prevents pre-spooling of No2.

Anyway, I've switched to TTC mode and No2 spools up fine everytime and the car drives fine for now (although a bit noisy, BPU with Blitz Nur Spec exhaust). From the post below, I'm thinking of sourcing another EGBV VSV and Actuator as all the turbo hoses have been replaced fairly recently with new 'Blue' ones and I don't really expect a leak from any of them and the Pressure tank must be o.k?

How many people have replaced these items to cure this common fault, or what else has cured it? Do you think I'm on the right track or have I missed something?

Thanks to Ian C for the info' from the link below, allowing me to work out which bits were which on the car as it's all new to me. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=35926

Cheers,

Nige.

After further investigation in the Freezing cold tonight, I tested the resistance of the EGBV VSV and got a healthy reading of 23 Ohms. I then decided I'd remove the EGBV Actuator, before realising where it was. Doh! Right at the back of the engine bay hidden by a multitude of pipes and engine etc. :(

Whilst thinking "How the hell do I remove that?" and shining a torch down there, I noticed that the small flexible hose going from the hard pipe off the EGBV VSV to the actuator had a split in it! This must be the problem. Approx' 1 hour later, I managed to remove the hose, trim the end off with the split and re-fit it again.

Now all I need is some good weather to see if it has cured the intermittent 2nd turbo problem as there was no chance I was going testing in this! :D

Fingers crossed,

Nige.

Thanks for that Greg.

After reading up on the possiblities of the fault and the fact that the car boosts fine in TTC mode, I'm quite confident that I've sourced the problem. The EGBV solenoid tested out fine as above, but due to the split in the hose to the EGBV Actuator, I'm hoping that this is what was causing the intermittent operation of it. ;)

Looking at the weather forecast, I might not be able to try this for some time, but I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Nige.
