Cable broadband and DSL on one PC

Jake

Recommended Posts

I've recently switched from 1meg DSL broadband to 4meg cable. But now I've found that I can get 2meg DSL for free from my satellite TV provider (Sky).

I'm tied to a 12 month contract with my cable supplier - so I'll have both.

To take advantage of both cable and DSL at the same time I'm told I need a 'load balancing router' - is that right?

They seem kinda expensive at over £100

Jake,

I use my cable line as my primary line with my adsl being the backup if the NTL goes down. Load balancing causes all sorts of issues especially when you use two different ISPs. You are in effect just randomly sending packets to different ISPs, and things such as MSN video and games just can't handle two different source address.

I use IPCop to handle it all, it does layer7 filtering, URL filtering; good for protecting kiddies.
