silvershark44
Well ive been reading a lot of threads lately about insurance and it seems to me that Sky no longer seem to cut it. They dont even appear to be remotely competitive in most cases. So would there be any merit in approaching another insurance company to be our club insurance dealer/broker. What do you all think? Because at the end of the day, how much are we benefiting from Sky as a club insurer?
Henk
They did me fine on two cars with agreed value, I think maybe the happy customers are not being as vocal as the unhappy ones! EDIT: Going up against Confused, Elephant, Admiral etc. etc. they came out best, not just in price but also terms & conditions.
imi
Try A-Plan and Bell - both seem to be very competitive and in my case 40-50% cheaper - so despite the agreed value by SKY I will be moving away from them come renewal.
Todd
Very happy with Sky, mirrored my policy for the missus, changed car 3 times with them. Rest of my family have cars with them and also recommended them to other friends. Obviously everyones circumstances are different when it comes to insurance but for me knowing that I wont get pissed around come crunch time, gives me peace of mind Funny thing is, I've been reading all the insurance threads and I wouldn't say that Sky aren't cutting it, that's just your personal take on it
Guigsy
best quote i found (ok it was with confused.com and i couldnt be bothered phoneing arround to get it lower) was 3.5k! cant remember who with. Sky is £1291 (dunno where that 1 came from) so im happy with that improvement even if it is quite large. its less than my clio when i forst got it

Havard
Sky gave me a silly quote of about £950 for an NA. Finally got a deal with AON for £389.00!!! 32 with technically no - no claims due to having a company car for 7 years. Been driving 15 years in Feb. I reckon I've done 300,000 miles without an own fault accident!! Plenty of non faults though!! Fooking marvelous!! H.

When I bought the Supra, my existing insurers (2gether) were cheaper than sky - but it still cost me about £450. I know I'm older than you, and I have about 5 years NCD. mawby
The major difference with Sky is that if there is a problem you can approach them and they will attempt to do something about it. If you find a cheaper quote then tell them and they will attempt to match it. If you have any problems you just phone them up and talk to them, they know the club, they know the cars, they generally know what they are talking about. Sky were chosen not simply because they offered the lowest prices (because in a few cases they didn't) but because they offered the best cover for the best value and were willing to take an interest in the club. We have a few insurance skys setup unofficially from when I was in communication with loads of insurers trying to set up the club scheme, but Sky were the only ones interested in visiting the forum and offering advice to members when needed. They were also one of the very few at the time who would do agreed values. I'm not saying Sky is for everyone. Insurance is a funny thing and one company will never be the cheapest for everyone. You should definitely check out some other companies when renewing but if you find it cheaper than Sky then let them know, even if you decide to go else where, as they can hardly be expected to be the best if they are not told where they are going wrong. jamesmark
Sky was £300 dearer than other quote that I got but the other did not do like fore like, they did do agreed value. And £550 dearer than the cheapest quote, and no attempt of any price match from Sky either. Still went with sky for the piece of mind on like for like, next year I will not be doing a lot of driving so very very doubtful I will be using Sky again with there prices. T2 MSW
Havard Dependent on the Insurer you may be able to get something on the fact you have been using a company car. You need a letter from the insurer of the company policy. I have done this in the past, got two years NCD for using a company car! Sky were also expensive for me - Direct line were the cheapest even with the few Mods.

jamesmark
Agreed. Further to my post when I get the car back on the road then I will no doubt probably use Sky again as for piece of mind I would rtaher pay more.
rob wild
When I rang Sky this time last year (my renewal is in 10 days) they were about £350 pounds more than Lancaster who I’m currently with. I may give them another chance this year but I’m defiantly going to ring A-plan as they seem to be done some really cheap deal at the moment
charlton
Agreed. Further to my post when I get the car back on the road then I will no doubt probably use Sky again as for piece of mind I would rtaher pay more. Same here, I'm 90% sure I'll be with them again - Just in case the unthinkable happens and the Supe gets written off or stolen they will pay the agreed value for it or they will replace the mods/bodykit that gets broken/damaged They may be more or they might not be, either way I will let them know the cheapest I have been quoted so far. All the quotes I've had vary in excess and none will replace mods or do agreed value in the event of damage or theft Most insurers will try to wriggle out of paying claims and try to pay you less, I dont know what sky are like (or other insurers) in this regard and I hope I dont have to find out but either way you dont know what an insurer is like untill you have to make a claim

Valid points all round Mawby and I for one appreciate the time it takes you guys to sort things like this for the club;) The only disappointing issue that I have with SKY is that Jae is now fully aware of what is going on from reading these posts, and yet his company has done relatively little about it (i.e. it appears that not one club member has been approached by SKY to present or suggest any form of price reduction or cost matching). SKY do visit the forum every so often but I think its more to assess the competition issue and not to address any questions that any of the members may have on insurance - or at least they don't seem to get involved with the cost and competitive side to the argument; however constructive! At the end of the day, SKY are here to make money first and foremost and they seem to be doing a good job of that!!

A good example of how it can vary from person to person then. I left AON for Sky as AON wanting £300 more than Sky to insure my Supra. How do you know? not having a go but just because they may not have "quoted you happy" does not mean they are not doing a good job. Of course they are making money, that's what a business is for but you should really go and read up on the people that have had to use them after a crash, that's the real acid test and from what I've read they do a good job. silvershark44
Ok cool no problem. Its just a lot of people seemed unhappy with them thats all. rovervi
best Sky could do for me was 890 Elephant did it for £
Gerry
Just looking at this for the new car... Phoned Sky who were very helpful and who gave me a quote straight away of £691 plus £35 agreed value. That's better than we used to pay with the last Supe. Spoke to my company insurers (broker) who asked if they could have a shot using "Zurich Specialist Risk". They came back at £545.00 ! They are interested in quoting for more, so as soon as I do the deal (next few days) I'll post full details.
Guru
Yeah I have been with Sky for 2 years, but will look elsewhere for a cheaper quote this year for definite
