jamesmark
Own fault, for some reason Zonealarm does not like MSN messenger so I have to switch that off to start MSN, I left laptop on lastnight as downloading torrents and I have picked up a virus, on pot luck I can boot the computer up. Have run Zonealarm antivirus and nothing, downloaded updates and run again and still not picking anything. I get a boot up green sreen full of "=" signs and i have lost all sound and lost access to quicktime. So going for a full system reboot. Sod it F disk the fecker. edge
I use AVG free edition. Best free anti virus thingy i have ever used.
jamesmark
Heard mixed about AVG, but decided on Zonealarm Pro and comes highly recommended. It is a friendly peice of software too, but it is always the same AV software is only effective if up to date and the company is aware of viruses that are doing the rounds. Todd
we love AVG as its fecking useless and keeps us busy removing viri:) Really? Build PCs for folk and do a bit of repairing on the side and always bung on a copy of AVG. Never had an issue with it in the past couple of years. Guest Geneb
bud had it from AVG the free version dont scan everything , they wanted us to become a reseller and sell the pro version like we tell everyone why make one product free and sell another if they scan the same. the amount of times we have had customers who say there pc is running slow but it cant be a virus as they have AVG that is fully updated and scanned nothing. we run bitdefender and hey presto VIRI:)
Konrad
I do not heal most of viruses. Time and hassle to remove some of those and time wasted on scanning EVERYTHING I'm trying to do on computer by some shiat antyvirus is time wasted - I rather reinstall system fully If you want to point out about IMPORTANT porn stuff on your disc - just make bloody 2 partitons and keep your documents, pics and music there! Or (once again) use RECOVERY CARD - 10 pounds on ebay and working - seriously!

Priority updating via ultra reliable Akamai servers is only available for purchased products. * AVG Free Edition does not offer advanced testing options, such as automatic healing, password-protected archives reporting, adjustment of scan process priority and many others. * AVG Free Edition has no technical support! None of the above an issue for the average punter with the windows firewall in place.
Pot
I use Windows Firewall, and AVG free edition, the firewall seems competent enough at keeping bad things out, meaning AVG doesn't have to work too hard I guess... Never had a virus related problem on any of the 3 PC's here, think my router's got a built in firewall too IIRC, but it's nice and simple, and my PC works fine... (Just my 2p worth)... bondango
like we tell everyone why make one product free and sell another if they scan the same. we run bitdefender and hey presto VIRI:) Bitdefender make theirs free, but you need to pay for the full version which has the Real time virus sheild - and lets face it, without real time protection why run antivirus software. AVG free is without doubt one of the best out there
Jive
Anyone here running Avast? I've had it installed at home on a main pc and laptop with no problems, free install for home edition as well and I'd say it's better than AVG.
jamesmark
Well that went well, cant find the sodding disk. I cant be arsed. I have backed up my files so if it goes mental then will do it then.
TLicense
My understanding is that AVG isn't going to be free for much longer.... I run Avast, and it seems to be fine. But you never know until it's too late anyway.

Were that happy with the product we even install it on our own brand of pc so as not to get so many warranty calls but from my experience theres no such thing as a free lunch unless there robbing your house while you eat it. also like i stated people using software like AVG keeps me in business

Avast here as well, on pretty much all 5 machines bar my work one... not had a problem yet. All adware and ads are blocked at layer7 on my firewall. Avast is also good but I didn't like the interface and I've used AVG on lots of machines without any issues. You're kidding yourself if you think any virus protection is foolproof though, I've had viruses get through with both Norton and Mcaffee (and no end of problems with mcaffee falsely reporting things as viruses). Guest Geneb
had if from the rep trying to sell us the AVG pro because we told him the AVG free was crap maybe he was just trying to make excuses for a shit product. just amazes me how people think that if a product is free and causes no problem they think its great. but hey keep using it , its better than nothing
