Bob
I've just tried starting the car and things have gone very very wrong. The lights come on as normal, everything starts up fine. Then I turn the key all the way round to start the engine and several things happen . . . There is a loud click, and I lose all power So, I release the key and take it out and The ignition barrel and interior light start flashing, accompanied by loud clicks from the direction of the ignition barrel, followed then by The headlights flashing a few times, then the indicators flashing twice and the alarm beeping (2 flashed and 2 beeps = alarm disarmed), the ignition barrel and dials flashing another couple of times, then the car goes dead. All with no key in the ignition. I'm scared. I've also taken the battery out to charge it, just in case it has something to do with that. Shouldn't be though, as it's one of the big Halfords ones with the 3 year guarantee, only 12 months old.
D8MOA
sounds like you have a alarm problem
letmeshowyou
what alarm is it? I wouldnt be surprised if this was all battery related. Make sure when you connect it back up everything is tigh as it should be.
Bob
It's a Toad Ai606, though admittedly I don't think the interior sensors have ever worked
Chris Wilson
Either the battery is very flat, dead or both, or the battery terminals or earth lead are insecure, corroded or otherwise buggered.
Bob
Thanks, just checked the Earth connection and it was slightly loose - problem solved, panic over I've just been fiddling with the climate control unit, so thought I may have fubar'd something there! _Rob_
Its funny how a poor earth connection gives loads of flashing lights and strange noises!
Bob
Yeah, never had this happen before. Very bizarre!
Chewie
What happens is the electric current tries to find the next best path of least resistance. I had something similar happen to my old 205 GTi whenever you indicated the headlights flashed. Took alot of staring at the circuit diagram to work that one out. Bob
Well I never. Cheers, I've learned something new today!
Chris Wilson
Yes, all down to incorrect earth return paths.
Chewie
However many people did claim that my 205 was haunted and I should take it to my local exorcist. Swearing and gratuitous profanities were often heard from the drivers seat during the dawn and sunset rush hour grid lock.
Rob
Either the battery is very flat, dead or both, or the battery terminals or earth lead are insecure, corroded or otherwise buggered. Are you saying it could be a battery problem?
Chris Wilson
Are you saying it could be a battery problem? I thought that was fairly evidently a "yes".... ?
Rob
So it could be the battery then?
Bob
It was either the earth connection or the holy water that did the trick.
paul ashton
It was either the earth connection or the holy water that did the trick. Are you sure that it wasn't the mucky water that did the trick? LOL.
