WiFi on a PDA

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I've got my HTC TyTn PDA/phone. Its got Wifi on it, which is something I've never had before. I used to sync my i-Mate JAM to my PC using ActiveSync and bluetooth (which was troublesome at best).

So what can I do with Wifi? I know if I can find a hotspot I can log onto it and surf the web, check e-mails, etc. but is it good for anythign else? If I get a Wifi card for my PC can ActiveSync4 use that to sync my calendar?

I can't really see a situation where I would wan to set up a wireless network in my own house jus so that I could wander around upstairs surfing the net on my PDA, but there were several occaisions while I was out Christmas shopping that I would have liked to be able to get onto the internet to check out some product specs and online prices but my GPRS connection on my JAM just wasn't up to the job. Hopping into a coffee shop with a wifi hotspot would have been just the job, but I don't fancy paying whatever p per Mb for surfing over 3G or GPRS for long periods. I take it that when you use Wifi its justbetween you and the hotspot provider and Vodafone won't get a penny?

Some kind of WiFi for dummies lesson would be handy!

TIA

basically yes! It is between the wifi provider and you and doesnt use your network at all.

even better if you get a prog called wififofum installed. This little prog tells you which wifi spots are wep enabled and which ones you can connect to..... ie pinch a home users wifi if they havent put a security key on it.:eyebrows:

I use wifi all the time just to surf when im bored at work... (upstairs has wifi without a wep key! :D )
