turbonut
Hi As I now have my supra I'm selling the Yaris T Sport (cant afford to run 2 cars, sadly) Put it on Auto Trader Website with photos, thought reg was hidden by camera flash. Seems not. Had a call on my mobile from someone wanting to buy the car 'for his girlfriend', asked for my post code ' to locate it on map finder', then said he'd ring back to arrange a viewing AND would give me cash. Few minutes later get a text, they're interested will offer me xxx but need to ask for 'a few details': VIN/Chassis number MOT certificate number Serial number and issue date on V5/logbook... Alarm bells rang in my head. A HPI check can be run on the reg, don't need any other info. I text him that 'he can check docs when he comes to look at it, don't need that level of detail at this point, unless yourlooking at cloning it! .Response? silence. Think that pretty much sums it up, or am I being paranoid???
Pete
It does seem excessive, but they may just be checking the car out.
turbonut
It does seem excessive, but they may just be checking the car out. perhaps. Would you feel comfortable giving out that kinda info on your supe if you were selling it to a complete stranger?
imi
they will need your chassis number in order to get some valuable info from a HPI check....agree, they could do all that after viewing the car. preliminary HPI check should be good enough to start with. I wouldnt have given them that info either......especially the MOT Cert + V5
absz
i normally ask for all details including chassis number for a full hpi check if i'm viewing a car thats a few hours drive away:rolleyes: just saves finding out hidden history when you get there. Chewie
Oh definitely paranoid. When I bought my Supra privately. I went round to look at it. Test drove it. And more or less asked for all made a note of all those details. And then did an HPI. Put yourself in their place would you part with your hard earned cash for something that may well be bogus?
