juanchan
If you use an alarm to wake you in the mornings but find you have trouble waking up, try going to bed an hour later (seriously). Really? I get about 6 hours a night and I generally struggle to get up in the morning. How would only getting 5 hours help? Not trying to have a go, I'm just curious, cos it'd be great if it actually works
MrHanky
Generally 6 - 7 hours for me. I find that 6 is plenty enough so long as it is undisturbed sleep. Unfortunately this is quite rare though as my little lad has a tendancy to wonder in our room in the middle of the night and then want to play at 6am. Hay ho, one day he will be a teenager and no doubt live in his room for large amounts of time (thats what I did anyway). Mark

Not trying to have a go, I'm just curious, cos it'd be great if it actually works Because your body sleeps in 90 minute cycles, 90 mins of deep sleep and then 90 mins of REM. People having trouble getting up is because the alarm is trying to rouse them from the particular cycle that doesn't like being roused (can't remember which way around it is). If you go to bed an hour later you'll be in the other cycle when the alarm goes off and you'll find it easier to wake up. In your case I'd try it an hour earlier though cos 5 hours sleep is pushing the theory!
paul ashton
7 hours a night usually, I still get up at 6 at weekends which is annoying. If you use an alarm to wake you in the mornings but find you have trouble waking up, try going to bed an hour later (seriously). TBO i find that works, sounds silly but i do feel better. I was kinda hoping the hour later thing might work cos I always feel that the evenings are too short and there isn't enough "me" time in the day! I shall have to test this here theory then.... SupraAyf
i need atleast 10-12 hours but can sleep for upto 16/17 hours Crikey - that's amazing mate. Have you phoned the Guinness Book of records as you may be in with a chance of getting your name in there. My sleep pattern stands on an average of 3-4 hours per night as that's what my body has become used too on a routine basis. I have routinely been in a pickle where my sleep pattern has stood at 4 to 6 hours after a 100-hour stretch of being awake, but that really screws your system up after a few weeks on that rate. The wife thinks I'm loosing the plot but I can't see the problem myself:blink:
