Gazboy
On an open pitlane trackday, what would be a sensible amount of laps before the car could do with cooling off for a bit- I'm assuming should you have enough fuel that 3 hours would destroy the car.... supra matt
id say about 5 of full on abuse mate . should last 3 hours easy if you do a full sevice before you go ie new oil and filter and change the break fulied if it ant been done for a while /
michael
20 > 30 minutes is usually enough for the car and the driver, normal days run 30 minute sessions with a warm up and cool down lap. I tend to do 15 > 20 on open pitlane to give the PAS fluid chance to cool down.
SimonB
It's not only the car but you that needs cooling off, best to have a break to keep your concentration up. I reckon 20-25 minutes or so at a time is about right. You will run out of fuel before 3 hours is up, it's easy to not notice and run out of fuel, which would be highly embarassing... Bobbeh
After my last experience I'd say about 30 miles of driving, pop in, check wheel nuts and let brakes cool down and like Simon says, have a rest mentally
Homer
A tank wouldn't last anywhere near 3 hours. Fuel wise figure for 7-8mpg
Bobbeh
~140 miles with a full tank for me at the Nurburgring, so that'd be around 11 laps at 13.5 miles (and remember I'm running stock everything)

Chewie
And how much tyre tread do you need to start off with before you're down to the fabric carcass?
Gazboy
A tank wouldn't last anywhere near 3 hours. Fuel wise figure for 7-8mpg It was a sarcastic comment- I've burnt £100 of Optimax in 25 laps of Bruntingthorpe before.
michael
And how much tyre tread do you need to start off with before you're down to the fabric carcass? Donington is quite kind on tyres, it was wet when I last went there but I don't think I used much more than 1 > 2mm in a full day.

I have already checked out the nearest shell filling station not so far away from the track thankfully.
michael
I'd recommend a copy of GTR2 on the steering wheel too, Donington is absolutely spot on, good practice
Gazboy
It's going to be the Silverstone GP circuit.
SimonB
It's going to be the Silverstone GP circuit. I've done an open pitlane evening there, it's brilliant. Loads of run off, bit boring through the complex at the end of the lap but copse corner and the stretch down to stowe is just fantastic. I went through a fair few quids worth of expensive hardware.
