albundy68
a while ago i bought some JIC coilovers, (in UK so they had already been imported and tax paid) they needed reconditioning, so i sent them to JIC US marked coilovers to be reconditioned, no import to US tax but doing same when they came back, DHL want me to pay 30 odd quid import tax. is this right? or should it be exempt because the tax was already paid when they were originally imported??? (and because they only went to US to be fixed).
TrickTT
You shouldn't have to pay tax, if the customs declaration form was filled in as 'warranty repair' or similar.

Call them and explain and also get a letter of confirmation for the people in the States who refurbished them. In my experience, DHL don't forget about it and drop the charge and would pursue through legal means if necessary.
Class One
If DHL have paid on your behalf, you'll have to pay them and go about reclaiming it from HM Revenue & Customs.

Yep - DHL won't care, just pay them. IMHO you've got away lighty - we've genuinely had plenty stuff from the US reconditioned in which we've paid the full VAT for twice with no way of claiming it back, sometimes several hundred pound Gaz.
