Ian W
i generally stuck to 20 miles from light on. it will no doubt do a bit more than that but i wouldn't want to chance it to be honest. EDIT: just to clarify, this is driving in town conditions.
cashpoint
Managed 62 miles of motorway driving, before i lost my bottle and used the can in the boot. On normal roads with traffic light and junctions i'd play safe and say
cashpoint
Hard acceleration and brakin is the killer for fuel economy though. How fast do you want to get home?
Ian R
Hard acceleration and brakin is the killer for fuel economy though. How fast do you want to get home? Or how fast to the petrol station
TrickTT
Fuel light comes on with approx 10litres (2 gallons) left in a j-spec.
tbourner
I heard someone on here say the needle had gone right round to the middle of the 'E' on the guage and still not run out!!!
Mike M
I think the fuel pump starts complaining when it gets really low.
Mike B
I ran mine out completely... 35 miles of normal non motorway driving... I recon.. probably 45-50 if you don't touch the acellerator! My fuel guage was not working at the time and when the light came on and I thought.. nah; must be loads of fuel left - the guage read 1/4 full..... Wrong!! cue thumb home.. Mike B
I think the fuel pump starts complaining when it gets really low. I use 2 walbro's and they didn't really change note.. one was feeding air into the system for a while.. The engine starts complaining though!! closely followed by me
Max Headroom
Wouldn't it mess up your injectors too running a tank dry?
Mike B
It caused no end of stress!! I use an Fcon and as it constantly fed air through the system the ecu spent the last 40 miles trying to relearn the mix - that was completely unlearnable.. as a result the system went into complete shutdown to protect the engine - it then took 3 tanks of v max to re-map itself. Having said that it has a det/knock sensor - so it protected the engine when I was still trying to use it under medium load... At least I know the system works.. it's back to 100% now. Newgendesign
Ah so 35 miles at a push. Thats pretty good! It came on this morning so I reckon I could do the 8 mile round trip ok to the gym and back. Fingers crossed. I know its not good for the engine running it low.... silvershark44
I heard someone on here say the needle had gone right round to the middle of the 'E' on the guage and still not run out!!! Yeah ive done that, been stuck in a traffic jam, moving slowly, praying that I can reach Shell in time! Thats in a TT too, and there is no way i could do 40 miles from light on to full empty. I would say 20 max, on steady driving. But in town, the car just drink petrol to pass the time. ah well its worth it!
Newgendesign
Helpful as always guys, thanks.
Sheefa
I never let my tank go below 3/4 or a 1/2 at the bar minimum unless I really have to. A full tank of petrol just seems like a much better and responsive drive to me!
Chewie
Another reason for not letting it get that low is to prevent sucking all that tank sediment and clogging up your filters.

jaymdee
Last year my light came on when I left the Fairmile, Cobham with 2 other Supras leading the way, as I didn't know how to get home to Bristol. I ended up filling up at Warminster on the A36 wihch was approx 70 miles, and not hanging about. Was getting quite worried that I would run out. Needle was considerably below the minimum mark!! Konrad
Another reason for not letting it get that low is to prevent sucking all that tank sediment and clogging up your filters. Can someone once and for good reveal, if fuel in Supra is going from UNDER tank or is it sucked up by pump through hole on TOP of tank? I thought it is UNDER tank, so no chance to clog filters with anything at all...
Chewie
70 miles from Warminster to Bristol. Have they moved it?

I thought it is UNDER tank, so no chance to clog filters with anything at all... Fuel is sucked from close to the bottom of the tank through the pump and then out the top. There is a strainer on the pump inlet as a first line of defence.
dan4
why would you let it get that low?! I use my quarter line as empty
Matt _Aero top_
why would you let it get that low?! I use my quarter line as empty as we all know quarter tank doesn't last long so i use this as my safe marker and time to make my way to a passing station that sells 97 ron
