Homer
Now that DC++ hub lists appear to be blocked almost everywhere can anyone recommend a place to download music/albums from? I'm looking for some older stuff so usenet is no good.

Gaz6002
Have a look at internet relay chat (IRC) based downloading. Slightly more challenging than most but faster and more reliable as well.
edge
Bit torrents for albums. Lime wire good simple prog to use for singles. Also check the russian sites - some you have to pay a massive $1 per album lol. As previously mentioned - news groups, worth subscription on some as very very relaible and quick. I would still go for IRC. Tried and tested and all that.
edge
Havnt used irc for years. Is still like looking at a multi coloured DOS program going nuts?
Gaz6002
Havnt used irc for years. Is still like looking at a multi coloured DOS program going nuts? only for newbies And still the fastest connection I can get. Just be careful what you download! Some are just full of trojans. chilli
well worth using http://www.allofmp3.com for the small fee per mb downloaded you get access to a massive library, high speed downloads, reliable always available service and consistent quality. + it has a decent front end client for searching through the pretty massive catalogue of music I put say a £5 on a month and it gets me enough to keep me going. For stuff I would really want to buy anyway, I but the proper CDs or even download it from itunes (although if I'm gonna pay I do prefer the CD) because it's good to support artists that really deserve it (although it is the music comapany that makes most of the £ lol) for what you want, I'd highly recommend allofmp3 - it is very convenient and it is not so blatently illegal like irc or torrents. Although allofmp3 themselves might be doing something dubious, it has been said that they could never 'do' the users directly and in fact they are having real trouble making anything stick on the actual company either - there is some blurb on the home page about it iirc if you want to know more
CardiffSupra
I used NewsLeecher, I think its $8 a month and you can get everything and anything!

PJ
Oink's Pink Palace is a great music tracker, but very very hard to get an account as it is by invite only. I don't have any invites before you ask.
geoffvalenti
I use http://www.legalsounds.com and at 5 cents per track, its not going to break the bank, especially at the current US Dollar exchange rate
Konrad
Soulseek is ok. Fast dl's, you just have to be patient, when searching. Oh, and it is free of course.
