HID Headlight Problem......

Supragaz

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Anybody know what is wrong with my headlight? My drivers side headlight flickers when I put them on. It sometimes flickers and goes on and will go out again. I can hear a spark/clicking sound when it flickers. Is it the bulb or HID box? It sounds and looks like a kitchen tube light when it happens. :(

Thanks in advance

Gaz,

Mine does this. My passenger side bulb anyway.

I took mine to Rich (Trick TT) as my HIDs weren't working at all (ballast problem) and he sorted it. However, he examined the passenger HID bulb and it was cloudy with a yellow thin residue inside. He said it might be on its way out, but waiting for a bit when switching them on might clear it. It still flickers, but turns on after about 10 seconds.

I'll be getting a new bulb mate. :)

Thanks mate, sounds like the problem I have. I took the bulb out and it did have a milky look in the centre :(

What bulbs do I need? Do I need different ones because they are HID lights?

Thanks

I had this problem. Try swapping bulbs before spending your cash to prove it's not the bulbs. Then if problem persists, check connector and cable. It's a very high voltage to energize the xenon gas in HID bulbs so cable and connector condition has to be very good. Check connectors are dry and clean. My problem was the contact of the terminals in the so-called waterproof AMP connector. Also both bulbs had a milky residue but worked perfectly.

I had a slight problem with my HID's. on several occasions in the pas couple of months the beam pattern did not look right. My OS dipped beam would drop out every now and I took all the plugs off and put them on again. It has been fine ever since. I think the circuits are more sensitive to a poor connection than conventional bulbs. I think I will add checking the HID connection to my monthly check list.

Funny this just came up.

I just replaced my HID's for a new kit so have 2 HID bulbs 6000k, The bulbs are 9 months old and not used much at all.

If you want them you can have the pair for £30 ? I think thats normally how much they cost each.

Let me know :)

Thanks Mate, I will have a quick check of all connections, remove and refit and if its still the same problem I will have them off of ya for definate.

Cheers

gaz :)
