Sheefa
Hi all, Mainly aimed at Chris as he's been working on my car recently. Spec in sig below. Just wondered how I can check I have a restrictor ring fitted and at what size, 1.1 / 1.2 bar boost limit etc. I haven't had the chance to put my foot down much recently, but honestly can't remember if I ever have crept over 1 bar of boost. Considering I'm on hybrids, full BPU and have some helpful BPU additions, AFR, FMIC etc, I'd like to know if I'm truly getting the power out of this. A) Can I check myself or B) Chris, do you know off the top of your head what boost I was pushing on the fuelling run? Checked through 5 years of receipts, but can't find a restrictor ring purchase anywhere Thanks guys. Greg
imi
if done, it would have been done at the same time as your decats....
Sheefa
Yeah thanks Imi, but I don't know the size buddy. Surely pointless having hybrids and full BPU if I have a 1bar restrictor ring in there!
Homer
If you have a boost controler then it will tell you current boost. In order to find you 'base' level of boost turn the BC off and go for a good run in 5th gear to check max boost. It should be 1.2bar or below (ideally only just below in this weather). Then its just a case of adjusting the BC to meet your desired boost level. It will need adjustement (or a higher setting on different channel) when the weather warms up
Chris Wilson
It didn't go over 1.2 bar when I drove it, and I gave it a bit of stick, it was cold and wet, so if WAS going to go over I guess it would have done. I can't recall if i removed all the exhaust joints or if there was a rstrictor there, so I'd just leave it as it is if it's boosting OK. I will do your receipt this weekend, trees down, some near escapes, a bit hectic to say the least....
Ric
so what would be the optimum diameter for 1.1-1.2 bar? Edit 2"
Chris Wilson
Depends on turbos, their condition, wastegate tolerances, engine condition and tolerances, exhaust system, blah blah.
Sheefa
Thanks Chris appreciate the response. As mentioned, I certainly haven't given it any real stick in this weather. Well, except last night on the way home when I reached 1.12 bar and she was flying. Thanks for the invoice. I forgot about your animal pens etc. Everything OK I hope mate, no damage to the pens? Chris Wilson
The owl flight pen has had the weldmesh fencing ripped up by a tree uprooting next to it. Thankfully owls are pretty lethargic during the day ands they just flew into their shelter and looked bemused. It's fixable, but i need to dro 3 60 foot pines that are between this pen and another, in a gap 5 foot wide... No room for error, so I hope we have a bit of luck and they drop where I want them to. Pines in storms are a PITA as they are so shallow rooted. If anyone wants cheap logs we have about 50 tons at the moment!
Sheefa
Chris, Glad the damage wasn't too bad. I'm doing a job with my brother tomorrow (Tree Surgeon) as he's had plenty of callouts. Surely if you have others helping you, reduce the pines and rope the the branches down. At least being shallow rooted you won't have to grind the stumps out, or you shouldn't. If you need to borrow a chipper, give me a shout tomorrow on 07973865154 as I should be done at this job by 3pm and we have it available for the rest of the day. Only mid sized, but will chew pines up no problem. My brother should be able to come too with his harnesses and O2O. PS: I might take some Pine wood too for the cottage log fire - bit smokey maybe though Greg
Chris Wilson
Thanks Greg, but we are pretty self sufficient lumber jack wise, we'll burn the small stuff on the bonfire and log the trunks for sale or fuel, but as we have only one real fire that we have never lit in the 6 years we've been here the tonnage we have will last several lifetimes if we keep it! Much appreciate the offer of the chipper, but we are OK thanks
Sheefa
More than welcome Chris. Should you change your mind and want to get rid of the waste, give me a shout as we'll only be about 40 mins away. Good luck anyways
