Jurgen-Jm-Imports
am going to undertake laminating a floor lol, how easy is it to do.. am thinking of the clip on ones but do i order the size of the room and just clip all strips together or do i have to first cut them to size then clip in ??? also if that is the case do i just nail the entrance door area down or fit under a door strip. also the edges of room do i fill with paste or fit as flush to skirting board. sorry for the questions a newbie at diy
JamieP
Its piss easy to fit, just follow the instruction on the pack.. buy a decent quality one such as quickstep, some of the cheaper ones can be a pita to fit together.
AlanM
Dead easy mate, especially if your room or one corner in it is square. Just throw them down clip them together and you only have to cut at one end and the side if the room you finish at. I replaced the skirting at the same time so did not have to be too careful with the cutting at all as the skirting goes over it.
stevie_b
My girlfriend's dad helped me with mine (he does decorating etc for a living), but..... Measure the room size, and order enough packs of flooring to cover it. Sometimes best to order an extra pack or so, because you won't be able to use very small off-cuts for much. Most of the pieces, you can just clip in without cutting. You'll only need to cut the ones that butt up against a door or something, so that they fit. The best thing for the skirting is to remove it completely, fit the flooring, then re-fit the skirting so that the flooring goes underneath it. If you don't want to do that, leave a small gap (1cm?) between the edge of the flooring and the skirting, then buy some plastic trim from the flooring shop to fit in the gap. The gap is VERY important, because it gives the flooring room to expand when it gets warm!!!

mathew
very easy to do just dont cut it tight to the walls, leave a few mm gap to alow for expansion.
merckx
Use some foam underlay stuff.
Max Headroom
make sure the floor is level and put down underlay, its easier in the long run to remove the skirting boards. Dont skimp on the laminate, some of the cheaper stuff is kack. Buy a tapping block from B&Q so that you dont badger the ends. Find your biggest source of light in the room and run the flooring at 90 degrees to it. Its easy as I have just laid my third laminate floor, just take your time. Oh and if its wood effect showing the grain remember to mix them up
Pete
I whole heartedly recommend ripping the skirting boards off. Makes the job 100% tidier and easier to do as well. Use a quality underlay. Take your time and try to work out the tricky bits. I even cut the bottom of the door surrounds with the dremel to get it under them.
