Manual conversion question

I am converting my N/A auto supe to a manual. I was gonna be doing the engine at the same time which would have meant changing the ECU over as well. Now I know that the engine ECU deals with the auto transmission as well.

So to the question then:- will I be OK swapping in a manual box and keeping the original engine ECU? I am of course assuming here that the speed sensor plugs are compatable but will look at that 2moro.

I believe the Golden Paperweight runs a manual box on an auto ECU with no issues !!!

The owner/builder of that car is Jon Cory (aka Bloofire on this BBS) and he's a top bloke. I believe he owns Nemesis Performance. Give him a ring if you want one of his bumpers, maybe he can sort you out.

I think he said that Nemesis Performance are also the official Veilside dealers for the UK.

He's the guy that's currently doing the Veilside Fortune 2003 project, you may have seen it in this thread

The guy that owns the car is Glen Warren , i personally dont like the car i dont evn think its that well done , the reason its called the paperweight is it is rumoured to have a gazillion HP but never runs , ie TOTB last year it was booked in , turned up and didnt even bother going to scruitineering , he never intende to run which is bollox cause he could have gone in the show car section and let someone else have his place (he did the same the previous year) , if Bloofire reads this prehaps he should have a word as i think it mugs Nemesis off a bit .

You'll be fine. The only problem you may have (might not see it as a real problem) is that the auto ecu will retard the timing at certain rpm/load sites, when it thinks the gearbox is about to shift. Of course if you have some sort of piggyback device that will be controlling the timing then you should be able to work around this.

The right way to go about it is to get yourself a manual ecu. That's whgat lead me down the route of getting an AEM, as I kknew I was going to mod the car further, and didn't see the sense of buying a stock manual ecu, and then buying another ecu (or piggyback units) later on, might as well get it done all in one hit.

Cheers

I have got a manual ECU but its for a TT. I will be doing the TT conversion as well but I have to source an engine at a good price. I was hoping that I could hit the project now to lessen the workload when I have got the engine but speaking to the guys at nemesis they are saying similar things ie needs the ecu sorting. I don't want to start faffing around getting N/A manual ecu's or piggy back stuff so for now I will just put the rear diff subframe on and await an engine.
