Excesses in the City

Recommended Posts

Is about to start on ITV1.

It's about traders in London and their sky high salaries and bonuses.

I went to see my mum at the weekend and my step-dad was saying that my step-brother (who is an investment banker in the city) was given a bonus at Christmas. Any ideas how much his Christmas bonus was? His wages for the year! That's a 50k bonus.

I'm so in the wrong job.

These guys are complete zombies and owned by there companys, I see them everyday as I walk through the city, they stick out like a sore thumb....they certainly earn there crust, but it comes at a heafty price.....work is you life

That's the thing about my step-brother though, he's such a normal guy. He isn't all blow and show like the ones on the program. But you don't have to have any sort of qualifications for it, he did a Chemistry degree!

One of the lads I went to school with is working in investment-something in London now. He's 23 and earning over 70k a year :wtf: . Ridiculous! That said, he leaves for work at about half 6 and regularly gets home gone midnight/one o'clock. As has been said, your life is theirs, but at least they pay you well for the privilege

What kind of business skills could a 23 year old have that would be worth 70k?

Not that 70k is really all that much money nowadays. Plenty of IT contractors earn more.

What sort of IT contracts are we talking about here Jake, IT salarys have considerably drops over the last 10yrs and are still dropping now :( Specialist IT contractors eg .net, C++, C# programmers are commanding higer salarys but these are usually within a bank anyway with a 70k + figure, thats quite high

He probably doesn't need "business skills" as such in all honesty - he's good with his numbers and apparantly is willing to work like a mule with them. I agree with RedM though - 20k a year's a decent salary. So long as I earn enough to keep the Supe going, I'm happy for now  I'll worry about mortgages later....

You're only 25 though, that's the beginning of your career.
