supraman.chris
Before i pluck up courage 2 go visit my local Mr T dealer on a cold and miserable early january morning with ear muffs protecting my wallet, can anyone give me a quick diagnostic on my problem? Symptoms are that on start up the revs idle at around 2000rpm and runs very jumpy with the exhaust sounding unusualy loud around 3000-4000rpm before eventualy all things reach normal status and at standstill the revs dropping to around 800-900rpm, until that is, when the engine warning light comes on and it rumbles for short periods of time. Any ideas appart from spark plug checks guys? Chris.

supraman.chris
O2 sensor ? You know, i forgot all about that! One of those selected few things that never did get replaced when we serviced things.
Graham S
possible dirty idle control valve, is it ok when its warmed up?
SimonB
Doubt if it's the O2 sensor - it doesn't get used on cold starts until everything has warmed up because the engine needs to run richer than normal when cold and the sensor doesn't work when cold. supraman.chris
possible dirty idle control valve, is it ok when its warmed up? Yeah, it seems to work just fine when its all warmed up. Even still, i think it could do with a tune up just to make sure evrythings firing properly y'know.

Is your car BPU? cars do slightly rev higher with mods when they are turned over because they do behave slightly different on start up and the fact that BPU flows gas much better might be whats putting the revs up. Matt H
P.s, you might just be able to put it down to the fact that your ECU is still mapped to idle thinking you car has cats, standard fuel pump, air filter etc. That was what happened with my colt cyborg (non turbo). The original air filter was really restrictive, after market one gave 7 extra BHP, and so on idle, due to the colt engine pulling more air on idle, a lot more air was sucked in that was needed and hense higher revs on start up. Ian C
If you are getting the error light on, check your error codes first and foremost - it's trying to tell you something! -Ian
