Plasma screen advice

I see you lot have been busy:) Thanks for all the advice - was all taken on board.

I was out this morning spending money - had a look at everything on offer and ended up going for the Samsung 40" LCD. Had no intention of going for an LCD but when comparing them side by side I have to admit I found the LCD to be much sharper IMHO. Plus it works well with Xbox360. Did look at the 50" Samsung Plasma which was similar in price but I thought would look far better on the wall than on stand(mine needs to be set up on stand). Appreciate all the help though I guess it's whats right for you personally as this thread has shown.

Nooooo:d someones gonna love reading this

Well Ewen, it's the usual scenario you spend ages giving your honest opinion and advice and then they do the complete opposite.

Where is he anyway, thought he'd be gloating by now!!

H.

:) Im sure he will be very happy with it. As to the three-spoked free-speaker from the wrong side of Hadrians Wall, I'm sure he will enjoy his victory with dignity and humility:d

42" Hitachi plasma owner here and boy do I regret buying it.

Not for the reason you think though. It was the same as the one Sky were flogging as their own "HD ready" one a couple of years ago. Slightly more expensive as it had more inputs (VGA, Scart etc).

What did Sky do a year later? Changed their fookin HD standard! There's an awful lot of plasma owners out there really pissed off with Sky right now because of it - especially as they were selling the exact model themselves.

Luckily for Sky they've now included the old standard they touted back in and I'll be able to get HD.

But that's still not the reason I regret buying it - because I'm not the slightest bit interested in paying Sky yet another £10 a month just so I can see a picture slightly better than the one I get now...

Here's the real reason...

Lin's been giving me grief ever since she found out about the standard change. "I knew we shouldn't have spent so much on a telly." Doesn't matter how many times I tell her different, she just won't listen. Women!!

PS. Ewen, are those Burberry curtains I see in your avatar you Chav? ;)

Fook, that was about 8 replies while i wrote mine.

I'm saying nothing ;)

I'm in the same boat with the HDTV connection though. Mine is the DVI type which is what HD was meant to be initially then they changed it to HDMI(is that right?). There are converters though. I don't have SkyHD so it makes no difference. I use my Mediacenter for HDTV from the US.

Scott =op

Sorry - didn't mean to make it seem like I ignored the advice about plasmas... I was 99% going to buy the 50" Samsung or 42" Panasonic plasma but ended up with the LCD after comparing them side-by-side (& got a really good deal on the one I went for too ;) ). Thanks for all the advice though  I too was worried about all the gloating haha
