I'm sorry to hear that aswell

However annoys me though when people say 'If you can't control you pet then don't have one'

Well got to say that applies to every cat owner reason beeing is, they kill 50 million birds every year and thats just birds! and the skittering B!!!!!!S go through your bin (Usually due to not beeing fed) and do there business in somebody elses garden.

cat owners who are against fox hunting it makes me laugh!, like their cat's don't tear of limbs of their prey??

And I hate it when owners let them jump on kitchen surfaces and spread parasites all over the place, not many people know this but cat saliva contains lots of bad parasties, although cats look clean trust me they are far from it!

Rant over

WTF!! This is hardly the thread to be displaying your dislike of cats.

Theres a big difference between a cat chasing wild animals, and a domestic dog attacking a domestic cat. Shame on you!

Sorry to hear about this dude. Not nice when a pet dies :(

Also I agree that this is hardly the best thread to have a go at cats. Not wanting to start an argument either but a bunch of people on horses chasing after a fox is a lot different to a cat going after birds and mice.

Gutted to hear this dude, it is awful thing....

Thing is, even if you report it to the police, chances are they won't do anything. When our cat got run over and landed us with a £750 bill to repair his leg, the police simply said, 'A cat in the road doesn't need to be reported as nothing can be done'.. Regardless of the fact that the woman was speeding and we had a full description of the car.

Never nice to lose a pet...

I respect what people think that about cats, but domestic animal on domestic animal should never happen, but when it does happen E.g. dog fighting dog in park (99% of time the owners pull them apart, thats the control im talking about) Wild animals are born and raised to survive, so they will fight to live. Domestic animals are raised that they dont need to do this.

The thing is, and I'm not sure I'd be able to do it... but are you going to be able to find the owner of the dog and not end up thumping him.... The dog owner should be made responsible for damage, but what sort of price do you put on a pet? Absolutely nothing will change sadly..

Yeah, but as you say, they are animals. That means they don't have have the capacity for rational thought, only for instilled behavioural patterns and instinct. Domestication is only a thin veneer of behavioural conditioning really. Hell, look at people and the way they frequently behave under difficult circumstances - they do say that civilisation is only two meals away from anarchy.

It must be a horrible thing to have witnessed, and I suspect that the shock of it has made you react more than otherwise you might. It's still never nice to lose a pet though.

You have my sympathies I know how you feel mate seeing a family pet get malled is a nasty and traumatic thing to witness.

I had a smiliar thing happen to my last Jack russel "jess" RIP.

She was mauled by a greyhound and died from shock during surgery.

Keep your head though and don't go looking for revenge, if you do find the owners tell them exactly what you experienced in detail let them know the pain and anger you and your famil are feeling.

Not a nice story at all, I'm not a cat fan but no domestic pet should be injured by another in this way.

I know it might be hard but take pictures of the cat if you can. Shame you didn't get a picture of the dog, would be very useful if you chose to report the owner.

Phone your local dog warden, the dog may have been reported missing - it's also a legal obligation to report any loose dog!!!

Heartbreaking to read. I dont know what I'd do if it was my cat...I love dogs too, but in this case I would have panicked and done the dog some harm in an attempt to save the cat. What a horrible position to be in, Im really sad to read this, what a total shame.:(

I love animals, but especially dogs, and I was 12 at the time, out in the fields behind my house running around with my dog when a neighbour 3 doors down decided he didn't like me being on 'his' piece of land (It was the equivilant of common land so he didn't own it) and let his staffy out.. This staffy was a nasty one, used to try and attack ANYTHING that walked past the fence, and I do mean frothing style stuff at the gate.

My dog (GSD) was my beloved pet, being an only child I spent 24/7 with this dog when I wasn't at school, as the staffy came near me I shouted at the owner to get his dog back under control as it ran towards my dog. I picked up an old rake which had been thrown away and put all my might into it, and buried the rake forks into the staffy's head. While I'm gutted I killed an animal because I really really don't like hurting animals, I felt this animal was going to cause me or my dog harm. A short dispute later with my father and the neighbour then left never to bother me again. Would I do it again, yes is the answer.

Jesus Christ mate, I'm so sorry. That's terrible. my heart goes out to you and your family

I had a cat many years ago that went missing for 2 days, like cats do. I found out off some lady that in the early hours of the morning my cat harry had been savaged by to dogs. And his body was still there. Well i found him but i wont go into what i saw. I nearly had a bloody brake down.

No words will make it ok mate. Just give it time. Time is a great healer.

I dont blame you mate. I'm a mad animal lover to. but there's just something about staffys that makes me wanna shit my pants. they are the work of the devil them things. Don't get me wrong, theres probably alot of them out there that are soft as shit but its the damage they can do if you cross them.

It was only 3 months ago when me and my girlfriend were walking our dogs. (pixy past away Thursday xxx)

when a bullmastiff came running out of a garden. i had to pick my lurcher above my shoulders whilst this mastiff was jumping for her. Then jumping for my girlfriend. I was kicking the mastiff in the mouth but it wouldn't stop. It got that much that i nearly started to cry with panic but someone grabbed the dog after 10minutes. I was so lucky the dog didnt turn on me. i must of kicked it 20 times in the head and mouth.

I was just going to pass on my condolences to WSB and be done with it, then I saw this post. "The work of the devil?" You clearly know the square root of fuck all about dogs if you think that. There are far, far worse dogs around than Staffies. A dog is what you make it, it is a reflection on you.

WSB, I'm sorry to hear that. I doubt you'll get far with a dog warden, although the attack happened on your land, and the dog had clearly escaped from a garden or house. Any self respecting dog owner has insurance, so claim back any vet fees you incurred. I know it won't bring your cat back or mend your heart, but it atleast puts a black mark against the owner come renewal time.

There's always one who want an argument!

I can say what i want mate! because i've had alot of bad experiences with them. If you read all of the thread then you would of seen the bit were i said alot of them are ok. Its just the damage they can do if they do snap. Don't take it to heart pal. after all i thought freedom of speech was aloud on here.
