Jive
Thought I had the same problem with only 2 months gone on my 360 but it was because my connector that goes from the 360 to the TV was unplugged when I turned the machine on, switched off and plugged in the connector and then retried and it was fine. Phew sprang to mind!

Jive
I had to update mine yesterday when I stuck GoW in, it didn't say there was an update for the game, just the 360, still suprises me as I'd been on it just about all day playing numerous games. Complete arse if they only last 6 or 9 months before breaking down
Daston
It suprises me that this happens a lot with the 360 I thought the idea behind consoles was to plug and play without the worry of overheating etc that PC gaming brings
