Brakes

If your brakes don't feel too inspiring, the chances are that you have the J-spec brake setup, 2 piston front calipers and single piston sliding rears.

A switch to the Uk setup, 4 piston fronts, 2 piston rears will transform the car ( it did mine), and there are also aftermarket 'big brake' kits available for the Supra. UK brakes are more than enough for normal use, anything bigger is for serious track day stuff. Do a search - there is plenty of info on here.

Another alternative to look at if you don't drive very hard or do track days is to do a complete fluid change and put some CW pads in, there have been good reports of that working well.

Also, some stainless steel brakelines might be useful - they firmed up the pedal a lot on mine.

I put them on my j-spec brakes along with CW Fast Road pads and Motul RBF600 fluid. Improved the brakes no end.

But you also changed the fluid. I suspect that a lot of the qdos of braided hoses is down to the fact the you will always do a fluid change when you fit them and the fluid change on it's own will normally make quite a difference.

I'm not dismissing them as bling, just pointing out the affect may not be as big as often cited. There has also been 'discussion' about ones that are not coated, the braid is a magnet for muck and can corrode quicker.

Fair point, I should have said that the lines were fitted two weeks after the pads and fluid so I could see any difference.

My brake pedal was particularly mushy, the brake lines definately firmed it up. Much more so than adding new fluid.

Mine are coated in plastic. They were from Whifbitz, made by Goodrich IIRC.

If they can indeed get reconditioned calipers for £65 each, - and according to the website they can, thats a massive ammount cheaper than buying them new,

i got mine on the cheap and they were still nearly 3 times that much!!!!

It might be worth you posting that link in the for sale/wanted section, coz that could save people a fortune!!!!

(just wish i'd knew about it 9 months ago!!!!)

Not necessarily. If it is an RZ it will have the big brakes (and be a manual with Recaro seats), otherwise they were optional.

I'm in Leeds too mate, if it's of any help we can meet up and visually compare the brakes to see if yours are Uk or Jap as I know mine are Uk.
