Guest Donster Posted June 14, 2004 Share Posted June 14, 2004 ok guys have abit of a dilemma and could really do with some help and advice, ive got the opportunity to buy a UK TT for £7K this will be my first supra so not really got that much knowledge on the costs of maintaining one! Its in immaculate condition and got full toyota service history from new but heres the catch.........its done 117,000 miles, the previous owner has had it ages its been well looked after and seems to be a genuine sale but is there alot that can go wrong after this many miles? do expensive things need replacing? or if its had good servicing should everything be ok? do you think its about the right price considering the miles? say if i had it a year and decided to sell it when its done say 130,000 miles would i struggle with a buyer and what sort of price would it be worth then? michael Posted June 14, 2004 Share Posted June 14, 2004 Budget for brakes, suspension, turbos, intercooler and diff cooler - or at least check if any of these have been changed already. My UK car had 78,000 on the clock when I got it last June, I've replaced all the above recently. Im just worried with it doing that many miles alot of serious things are on there way out and need replacing? how long do the engines go on for before you start looking at rebuilds etc???? If in good nick, you'd have no trouble selling that on for a few grand more, even after enjoying it for a while. Whatever you do, act fast! Barney Posted June 15, 2004 Share Posted June 15, 2004 Chris Wilson services a Supra with 300,000 as mentioned, I'm sure the engine hasn't even been taken apart yet! Apart from wear and tear items being replaced including turbo's it's still going strong. It's a great price esp for a manual, but just check if you can that the turbo's and other main parts mentioned in previous replys, are sound, because if you need to start replacing those sort of things the car could eat up your money......fast! JohnK Posted June 16, 2004 Share Posted June 16, 2004 If the car is stock, the turbos should be fine. Shocks do wear and the other expensive thing to look at is the intercooler. The diff coolers (Only fitted toi UK spec) do also go but unless you are thinking of doing lots of track days Id just have the pipe looped back to the diff bypassing the rad, cheap fix. FaithStalker Posted June 17, 2004 Share Posted June 17, 2004 i think it mts more around 2.5 and 4.5 you get a whistle out of turbo 1 (at least in a jspec u do), thats all ok and not to worry about, turbo 2 you cant hear it but you feel it, the car kinda just .....MOVES! oh and the petrol gauge falls rapidly! u not interested in mine Donster? SUPRACHRIS Posted June 17, 2004 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Most jap cars are built to last maybe even more than German cars these days, 100k on a 3ltr engine is nothing really, look round most cars even peugeot 106's have got that on them, and if a 6k car can manage it, and being french, a jap 45k car is certainly going to do four times that (as long as you look after it of course), but if your worried about turbos get a n/a, but i suspect you might regret it a bit as all of us on here love them, but i think most of us would not mind a TT Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Faith Adopter Posted August 26, 2004 Share Posted August 26, 2004 Hello, I now own Faithstalkers car and was just about to take out an insurance policy with Elephant, before giving my card details over I wanted to just verify that this did actually cover my exact vehicle model (GZ). The response I received was "we do not insure that variant of the Supra". I continued by asking "what variants do you insure then", the answer I got was "only the standard Supra TT". I said "but there is no such thing as a standard Supra, ie they are either SZ, RZ/RZS or GZ's", the response i got was "if you take out this insurance and it transpires the vehicle is a different model when i comes to making a claim then your insurance will become void....the only models we have listed are GS, and GR????" The only option I was given was to contact Toyota and get them to confirm (in writing) that this vehicle is a standard twin turbo. I am currently insured through a well known supermarket brand and it is clearly stipulated on my policy as being a GZ. Should I claim ignorance and run the risk with elephant or continue with my current insurance company? Anybody else had a similar problem? Faith Adopter Posted August 26, 2004 Share Posted August 26, 2004 ....just had a very long chat with Toyota's (UK) import department who have informed me that they are regularly contacted by insurance companies looking to catch misguided people out when it come to insurance claims.... after giving him the chassis number and model number they search their database and can then confirm the variant....
