GTR RGT
I need to know quickly, Im planning to buy a supra and put a single t04z in. One has come up which is non turbo in the first place, is this all ok to do? Is it the same engine but with no turbo ? If it did have twins, im only gonna take them out and put the t04z in... JustGav
In a nutshell, the answer is yes... the engine's are pretty much the same... First thing is, the ECU is not a tubbie ecu and as such doesn't expect boost. So you would need to do something about that. As far as engine differences go. 1. Compression ratios are different (pistons and headgasket) 2. No oil squirters under the pistons 3. No oil pipes for the turbos. It has been done plenty of times very succesfully, however I wouldn't go for big power without thinking very carefully. The NA manual gearbox is not as strong as the 6spd. However it is a very viable solution.

Tom
Depending on your cash flow why not buy an already singled supra? and any reason for the T04Z turbo? as there are much quicker and cheaper spooling turbo's on the market. And tbh the engines are different in that the n/a engine isnt a tt minus the turbo's as it isn't possible to add the stock twins to the n/a engine. I've bought cars that are already modified so I wanted to start from scratch and modify my self. I can then say I made it. The t04z was recommended. Do you have a better one in mind? The t04z was recommended. Do you have a better one in mind? Ahh ok, yeah go for your own project then, much more accomplisment, well it depends on what sort of power your intending on making but the boostlogic kits seem to be popular on this board, T61/T66 seems to be the most popular choice and will see 500bhp+ the T74 should see you over the 600 mark and with all kits this is with correct fueling, ecu and mapping etc which aint cheap, for a proper install and upgrading the neccessary parts you shouldnt be suprised if it comes near to the 10k mark. Of course there are other turbo kits available but I've always thought it has been good idea to use tried and tested units that members are already running as you can then use the same components are learn from mistakes/experiences they have had from using these kits. A quick search should reveal more.
