Hi guys, it seems ive got problems with my second turbo on my j spec , when driving the first turbo comes in fine, no problems there, but the 2nd turbo seems to be coming in later and later, when i first bought the car last nov the 2nd turbo came in about 3, 3.5k. then a few months ago it started to coming in around 4k, driving to work today there was a few times when it didnt come in till 5k!! and i almost got beaten in a drag race up a hill the other day by a 2ltr beatle :(

what are the rev ranges that the turbos are ment to come in?

ive never owned a turbo car before so im not sure what this is a sign off, and my knowledge of turbos is zero, so any help or advice would be most helpful.

thankyou.

Not being an authority on all things Turbo I can't provide the exact data you need but from my own J spec TT the 1st Turbo comes in at about 2k revs and the second one comes on strong at about 4k.

There's a bit of a lull at about 3.5k (seems to be the crossover point) which as I understand it is related to the opening of various valves and things to spin up the second blower for it to do it's full boost thing at 4k.

Cheers,

Sherriff.

It's meant to prespool at about 3500rpm, hence the slight dip in power, and then come on song at 4000rpm. Definitely at full boost by 4500rpm. Anything later and it's check-for-split-vacuum-hoses time :)

  • 1 month later...

Is there a difference in the spoil up RPM between JSpec and UK, I'm running a UK spec.

I've had a few problems with the spoil up time on mine, the second turbo seems to come on at around 4KRPM with full boost at about 4.5KRPM, wondered if this sounded about right for a UK car.

Ski,

I think IanC has answered this question just a couple of posts up... ;)
