Gareth Davies
I've been looking around for uprated brake kits, I know the UK spec brakes are alot better than the JAP ones, but if i'm going to pay for an upgrade (and fitting) I was aiming higher. That top secret supra at JAE had a great AP racing 6-pot set, and i've found a set Brembo do. Whats everyone else's take on this? Any ideas for / from shop? mark brown
The AP 6 pot setup is great, I have them fitted, cost about £1500, (normal retail about £1900). Be careful these brakes are huge and may not fit under your wheels. You will need at least 18" wheels to get the AP kit on and make sure the offset is right. There are only a few wheels that these larger brake kits will fit under. Make sure before you buy the brakes.
Guest Ash
Both Justin and myself have the Brembo upgrade. Like the AP's the callipers are pretty big, so the main thing to watch is the wheel offset. As regards wheels, you will need at least 18's but the wheel spoke design may preclude the fitment of the Brembos. So make absolutely sure before you buy that they will go on. Also, the hubs are different on later cars. I wouldn't say the UK-spec brakes were at all inferior to either the AP's or the Brembos. Of course, they do lack kudos. But in terms of braking capacity they are head to head. Yours, J
Branners
Ash - have you actually seen a late car with different hubs? I know thats what CW thought might be the problem on Nick Martins car but I thought it might have been Blitz wheels with the wrong offset. thanks JB
Gareth Davies
Mark, thanks for the prices, I couldn't fine them online anywhere. Where did you get yours from? Annoyingly they're for my newer supra rather than my current one, so I don't know how much space there is on the wheels yet. My current one has a really good set that bow out where the calipers would be, so they'd probably be ok.
Guest Ash
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm sure CW said the actual hub offset was different. Yours, J
Branners
thats what I heard as well, I was hoping somebody could confirm it. Bearing in mind the blitz wheels that Nick had were the wrong offset even for UK brakes it is quite feasible that the hub is the same, its the wheels that are wrong. Nick
I know now I have the wrong offset wheel but...when Chris removed PhilD's Gewalt and tried my Blitz rim on his car it cleared the Brembos ok. However, when the Brembo kit was on my car the Blitz rim wouldn't fit....l
