What would you do?

My girlfriend reversed out of her drive and nudges a car parked opposite. She knows the girl who lives there so knocks on the door and tells her. A guy comes out and says its his girlfriends car and hes using it but she is away for the weekend. He says it can be sorted out later. We see him running around in the car for two weeks.

Anyway I have a look at it and its not displaying a TAX disc. Rough N reg Pug 106 BIG exhaust.

Now hes come over and said hes going to get quotes as its being sold and here is his girlfriends name. I told my girlfriend to ask for his name and insurance details.

He is now claiming she (his girlfriend) parked it there and left it. So it would be her we deal with. :sly: My girlfriend has asked for his details now and its gone quiet again.

I dont think he has any insurance or TAX. :eyebrows:

How would you deal with it?

Does the owner live in the house opposite? Is the owner the girl your GF knows?

Deal with the car's owner not her BF.

Makes no odds whether the car is taxed, does it? Unless you're trying to get away with you GF's bad driving on a technicality

Get your GF some driving lessons! :D

No the owner does not live opposite. No my GF does not know the owner.

Surely legally you have to deal with the person using the vehicle?

If my GF was using my car and it was hit she would have to prove she was insured! Not me.

Yes my GF's a bad driver :D So help me out!! :D

I thought it was a parked car, doesn't that imply that nobody was using it when your GF hit it? Was it legally parked?

Are you saying one has to deal with the person who last drove it?

I thought it was a parked car so nobody was using it when your GF hit it, no?

OK so he was using it now hes suddenly saying his girlfriend parked it there and left it. Why would he be doing that?

Yes the insurance company will want to know who was using the car if it was not parked at its 'home' address. If he says an uninsured driver took it there they will want nothing to do with it. And him and the owner are on for 6 points each on their licenses.

On top of that if the car is not road legal it should not be on a public highway.

Call his bluff then, insist on going through insurance.

 So?

On top of that if the car is not road legal it should not be on a public highway.
But that doesn't mean your GF can crash into it with impunity, does it?

I understand that you want to help your GF but surely it's not right that she can get away with damaging someone's car just because it wasn't taxed at the time.

Am happy to go through insurance she's responsible thats not a problem. As long as we deal with the person who was using the car it.

So if the boot was on the other foot and you bumped into a car that was not taxed, insured and maybe even MOT'd you would then allow the person to say someone else was using the car and let your insurance pay for it? You dont seem like that to me! :)

Fair enough if you would!

If it's just parked then it's the responsibility of the owner.

Have a word with her and say you want to go through the insurance.

The owner must have insurance on the car if it's parked on the public highway!

It's got nothing to do with him until he drives it.
