Im well chuffed, me and the better half are off to Egypt in March for an all inclusive 5 star chill out.

I've never been to Egypt, im really looking forward to it.

Anyone been?

Anything I should know/see/avoid?

Cheers :D :d :D

If you missus is blonde avoid the Egyptians!! Blondes are extremely sexually arousing to them...extremely :D

Avoid the food unless you want to lose weight. :D

Make sure you missus covers up if you go out and about.

where abouts are you going my daughter just got back from christmas break

Makadi Bay near Hurghada, it looks really nice.

Cheers for the tips guys,

I have heard about the locals being 'funny' with tourists who don't cover up properly and the blond girlies, luckily she's got brown hair so shouldn't cause a riot!

I heard the food is meant to be great out there provided your careful, I could do with out getting the squits though... im only there for a week and would like to see a few sights.

PS - Cheers Ric, it had crossed my mind!

Hey marky, mrs been there last year and here is her testimonial:

1) ladies should definately cover up to avoid the pervy egyptians and they tend to hiss at the women

2) food is very bland at most places and try and get a meal on a boat on the nile - chinese, indian, italian etc and very good food on there.

3) take a cruise on the nile during the evening

4) cairo tower is something to check out

5) definately avoid the tap water - always buy bottled water

6) go to the desert in cairo, and ask your hotel to get you a tourist guide to visit - egyptian museum where you can view/buy amazing paintings, perfume museum (for the mrs i think)

7) go to the desert and have a camel ride and the tour guide can explain about all the pyramids/history etc - its about a 2 hour journey around the desert and is quite fun in the sun.

if you want i can post up some pictures for you so you can see what your in for :D just say so.

Eygpt is fantastic!

I was over there when the bombs happened last year!

It was quite scary tbh, but Eygpt is a fantastic place, do try to go over to Cairo if you get the opportunity, the Pyramids are a sight! Also we went snorkelling and it was amazing! Such a fab day out!

On the whole the Eygptians are fantastic people, the only thing that put me off were the street traders, I found we couldnt walk down the street without someone trying to drag us in there shop, it drives you mad after the 20th time trust me! And the "hey, delboy" remarks were waring thin.

Would I go back, hell yea! Fantastic food, service and the people were lovely. Almost guaranteed fantastic weather too.

Enjoy yourself and be sure to bring back some photo's for us all!

Oh - and try those bong things! :D

Deffinately go diving. Never been myself but its one of the top places in the world to go diving, deffinately on my list of destinations in my liftime.

Oh yes indeed. The Red Sea is awesome. Ras Mohammed is beautiful. Unfortunately there are so many divers that it _can_ get like you're swimming in Lemonade - bubbles everywhere.

MATE HOUNESTLY, for £300 you can live like a real KING. No joke, £1 has the value of £100. KFC Family MEGAMEAL delivered to your door 24/7 emmm 20p, yes 20p

Tips

* To avoid gettiong ripped off try and pick up the local lingo early on so you know what there saying.

* NEGOTIATE, those egyptians will accept anything, they will see your a tourist and try and rip you off, but dont have any of it. Try and act like you know what your doing and you know what you want, you tell them a price dont let them tell you, eventually they will accept.

*You HAVE to be firm when talking & walking around, otherwise you will be dragged into shops and almost forced to buy stuff by very persuasive people. Watch out for the papyrus shops, they once chanced my friends half way down a neighbourhood.

* ALWAYS drink bottled water, have plenty of it and keep yourself hydrated.

* Try not to take out all your cash with you all the time, as if one egyptian sees it.....ITS all over, all the shopkeepers will be around u like a flys on ****

I'd love to go on a boat ride down the nile, sounds very cool as does the scooba diving.

I'd heard that the pyramids are very commercial now so wasn't fussed but I think its something you've gotta go see if your in egypt!

I all sound fantastic... i might never come back :D

KFC bargain bucket delivered for 20p........ SWEET!

MK47 - I'd love to see some pictures if you get the chance.

Best holiday ever. Cruised up the Nile for a week then to Cairo for 3 days then back to Luxor . Went up in a balloon and flew over the valley of the kings and also went to Abel Simbal which is a must . I will say though that 7000 years of history is a lot to keep up with in 2 weeks .

I went diving in Sharm in June last year. Absolutely loved it, would definately go back again, will probably do so this year some time.

Maybe this time do a split holiday, go see the pyramids etc first, spend a few days up there, and then spend the remainder down on the Red Sea diving.

Thanks man! It looks great, you even got a hovis shot in there... with chips though... oddly :)

It looks really great and we're both getting really excited about it all.

Judging by all of the posts mentioning diving it looks like we'll definitely be trying it. Always wanted to but never have, is it expensive to try?

The place that we stayed at had a dive school on site, Werner Lau.

They offered a free, in the ocean, try dive which in my opinion is fantastic as it's normally only a once round the pool job which is bloody useless when it comes to seeing if you want to try it or not, diving is a very visual experience and being dragged round a pool doesn't cut it as an introduction in my eyes. The in ocean try dive is a great way to see if you like it or not, after that then it can be expensive depending on what you want to do. If you do like it then it's worth getting your PADI Open Water course done, it's recognised worldwide.

I always end up spending a fortune diving as I tend to end up going on way more jumps than I said I would or have budgeted for for that matter.
